  • I only lived in an apartment once and some dud upstaurs complained because I walked with my boots on in the morning. He got over it. I like living in a house a lot better, no one bugs you. Brownstones rock! Condos suck!

I have had similar problems with smoke and noise because of the age of my apt's building.

After speaking with my landlord about cigarette smoke coming into our apt as well we convinced the landlord to have the pipes and crevices of our apt sealed with I believe a foam sealant and they also did the same to the apt below where the smoke was coming from. Also we had a rubber sealant purchased from lowes installed around the edges of our front door to block out the smell from the hallway.
Sounds like my apartment. It often smells like smoke and my clothes smell like cigarettes because the downstairs neighbors smoke inside. I've complained to my landlord and he hasn't done a thing. I'm thinking about signing them up for every anti-smoking mailing list out there. Oh... and I love the other neighbors who smoke in the stairwell. Although we have roof access, it's apparently too much trouble to open the bulkhead door for some fresh air while you smoke.
