an idea for a new business in the north slope — Brooklynian

an idea for a new business in the north slope

entrepreneur
edited November -1 in Park Slope
Hey Folks,

I have recently taken interest in starting up a new business on 5th Avenue between sterling and pacific st.

I think it wise to ask the residents what they need the most.

That said please go right ahead and list the top 3 ideas you have and maybe even tell me why.

Or alternatively list the top 3 you don't want to see open up. (Almost as useful)

Thanks for the advice.

I'm all ears

  • laundry mat
    comic book store
    women's shoes

    not interested in seeing:
    cell phone store
    real estate office
  • Also not interested in a cell store or a real estate office. We really don't need another clothing boutique.
  • We need a tossed salad place. The type of place where you pick all of your ingredients and somebody makes the salad for you.

We don't need more banks, cell phone stores, real estate offices.
  • Flexi, we need about six of those. How many of us work at home and want to just run out for a salad rather than doing all that chopping and taking away from work time?
  • A permanent Wafels & Dinges?
Or a branch of Magnolia Bakery.
  • AREA and Bergen Bagels do tossed salads where you can pick the ingredients.

    We need:
burger and shakes and fries place where the burgers don't cost $10. (burgers and tossed salads)
    Something like Ricky's
    bakery, fresh bread

    We don't need:
    nail salon
    yoga
    natural food store
  • more vintage/thrift stores would be good. they seem to be thriving in this economy.

beacon's closet seems to do a very healthy business.

maybe something with clothing and furniture.

    or a buffalo exchange.
  • DEFINITELY a make-your-own salad place

    Women's shoe store

    furniture store
  • women's shoe store?

there is soula shoes on berkeley and 5th, there is a brand new women's shoe store where beacon's closet was on president and 5th, there is a dsw at atlantic center along with tjmaxx, and there is at least one all women's shoe store on 7th avenue. eric is the name, i believe.

how many women's shoe stores can the park slope area accommodate?
  • Coffee, please. The lines at gorilla can be ridiculous because every other place that sells it in n. slope makes gross coffee.

    Greek/middle eastern place.
  • one can never have too many shoes.
and yes, another thrift-type store would be great.

but i'd take the salad place over anything else.
  • stumptown coffee.
  • there is a place on smith called chop chop that makes nice salads and has a great selection of prepared foods. maybe something similar.

Where is AREA? Bergen Bagels is too far for me to go.

    This. Oh lordy yes.

Though this is where I confess that I'm pulling stakes in my beloved PH and moving alllll the way down to the South Slope (the things that I do to get my 9-month old daughter her own bedroom). I'm saddened at this, but thrilled that Roots Cafe serves Stumptown Coffee. Saves me a long walk over to Cobble Hill for it. :)

On Fifth between Bergen and St. Marks. It's a deli.
  • i also dont have time to cut vegetables for salads.
  • Don't want:

    Nail salon
    Cell phone store
    Slaughterhouse
    Petting zoo

    OK, maybe a petting zoo...

Oh god yeah, no more nail salons... please! Everything that goes out of business these days seems to get replaced with a nail salon, cellphone shop or bank ATM kiosk.

Which leads to: no banks/bank kiosks. We have enough already, and the banks themselves keep consolidating anyway. :)
  • Don't want:

    Sulfur mine
    Fat-rendering plant
    Fertilizer processor
    Fish by-product reclamation plant

    agreed!
WHY CAN'T PARK SLOPE HAVE A SALAD JOINT?!
I'm not talking about Area or whatever, I want a full out store-length manhattan grade salad bar. Bring it!!
  • That end of the hood could really use a good diner, unless there's something I'm not thinking of.
  • maria's restaurant on bergen and 5th is basically a diner.
  • soundfreak wrote: We need: burger and shakes and fries place where the burgers don't cost $10.
"5 Guys" on 7th and, ahhhh, like 7th.

    No shakes, however.

I thought that was a mexican restaurant?
  • a place that sells clothes and accessories for dogs

a dog bar, with special drinks and tapas for dogs

a dog travel agency, for pet and pet themed vacations
  • From what I can tell on this board, people REALLY LOVE THEIR BAGELS!
  • Mamacita wrote: From what I can tell on this board, people REALLY LOVE THEIR BAGELS!
Or, really really hate them. It all depends on the toaster.

Maria's Mexican is on Union and 4th.
  • the place i'm thinking of is on bergen and 5th. i thought it was just called maria's restaurant or something.

    it's not mexican.

i know maria's mexican on union and 4th, but the place i'm thinking of is different....

anyone know what i'm talking about?
