Sick of Black Racism - MLK day food for thought

  • I would like to share my positive experience of being a white person in PH. When I first moved here I wasn't sure how I would be accepted here because of posts like these I'd been reading prior to moving here. But after a few weeks here I discovered that all the black folks around me were very friendly and welcoming. Really nice, decent hard working people. Yes, occasionally I run into some high school kids who look at me sideways, but then I think about what a reckless idiot I was when I was 16. There's always going to be a few hard hearted people who don't like you. I actually have had more problems with neighbors in the all white areas I've lived in. Mean people come in all colors. But so far I have really enjoyed the opportunity to live amongst blacks. I actually feel a bit privileged.
  • You know PHrez, if you act really quickly, I think you can catch Patterson before he makes his announcement in 30 minutes; with sentiments like that, you really ought to be our next senator.

You missed the most important part. I think those blacks who throw things at whites are openly racist. How you could deny this fact is something I don't understand.
  • i think those kids (and they are kids, PHrez wasn't the only 16 year old idiot) throw things at outsiders and easy targets. race is incidental.

When are white people going to STOP patting themselves on the back for living around black people. I thankfully was brought up to believe that there is no difference between white and black. I guess that why I never feel privileged to live around someone that had a darker pigment in their skin than me.
  • So, Jay B, you are saying that he's correct in asserting that black people are the only group that seems to think it's ok to be openly racist? Furthermore do you think this generalization about black people is not racist?

I don't need to touch his original assertion that people were being racist in attacking him. I don't care. Like someone pointed out (was it you?) we don't have any information about what happened to him beyond what he said. What we do have full information about is his racist generalization. Which he decided was food for though on a holiday about overcoming such bullshit.
  • I'm not patting myself on the back, I'm just saying that I have an opportunity that many people don't have. Growing up in white suburbia was dreadfully dull. And I did grow up believing certain things about black people. But now that I've had the privilege of living around them I see things much differently.
  • This entire thread is ridiculous. Each one of you is more ridiculous than the next. PHrez you are just as racist as the OP. Pathetic. People are people, kids are kids. Thread over.
  • So how is not dull? Minstrel shows?
  • Wow. There really is NO hope for us is there.
  • As for "openly racist", what about the numerous incidents commited by whites every day such as purse clutching, dirty looks, whispering the word black, still saying colored, baking "drunken negro head" cookies, "liking them but not wanting their daughter to marry one", STILL hiring "mammies" to take care of their little brats because they are too lazy to, calling police for no reason on innocent "suspicious looking" people (never white), trying to shut down the fulton mall, trying to shut down projects, raising the price of a neighborhood to insure only they exclusively can afford to live there, burning crosses, saying boy, hanging nooses, paying lower wages to people of color than to whites etc...

JAH/Cafeaulait! You astound me every day!!
  • That's a lot of anger you have there Christobel. So when was the last cross burning and noose hanging you saw in PH? Whoops I'm late for my "shut down black neighborhoods" meeting (we elected BHO to lull you into a false sense of security, mwa ha ha!). Anybody can write a list of offences one race may have caused at some point, somewhere - it still is no excuse for targetting strangers.

Why can't we simply agree that agressive action (slurs, insults, physical attacks) from one person against a complete and total stranger be it based on race or "he looks like a pussy" or whatever is WRONG instead of apologists coming out and saying "but... but... his people are just as bad/worse so they deserve this treatment". Society will never move forward until people are called on their actions when they treat others with such a lack of repect instead of finding excuses for the childish behavior.

Holy moley - don't tell me that JAH/Fedup/Christobel are all one and the same - so he is arguing with himself? And silly me I let him(her/it?) rope me in! Do you know this to be true or is this just your suspicion?

No anger at all. Just pointing out that there are infinitely more examples to say that "white people think its ok to be openly racist and they are the only ones" but I didn't say that.

There have been hundreds of incidents of noose hangings and cross burnings over the last 2 years. I can post links if you want.

Kids are kids. White kids throw rocks and bottles when they see a black person yelling "go home n***er". Happens every day in places like Bensonhurst, Staten Island, Long Island, Bay Ridge, Broad Channel, Howard Beach. None of it is right.

STILL the fact remains that the OP did not give one tiny shred of evidence that whatever he claims happened to him had anything to do with race whatsoever.
  • What I think bothers people and certainly I speak for myself here is when people use the board for an "agenda", whatever that may be and pretend otherwise. It is certainly a possibility that Fedup is a real white person who has experienced racism from black people, but Fedup like Christobel could also be someone who likes to see people argue about race and who genuinely has nothing interesting or intelligent or new to say and I think the latter is more likely. Fedup and Christobel could be the same person for all we know...their argument style is pretty similar.

These kinds of agenda-driven posts do no favors to the black and white people (latino, etc) who live in this neighborhood and who genuinely try to do that peacefully.

But it is understandable why he creates a new name for himself after getting owned under previous names.
  • This is just like Israel and Palestine. It will never end.
  • This thread is so full of WIN and FAIL that the oposing forces may cause a black hole and suck the Intarwebs into a different dimension. Although I am highly disappointed by the lack of godwin that could only make this thread complete.

Don't know for a fact, of course. But the "calling police for no reason on innocent "suspicious looking" people" line is a tell-tale give away. Same words Cafe essentially used when the other poster said she was going to the police after being punched in the face for no reason.

Don't worry, within another 3-5 years, your currently black area will be every bit as dull as the suburbia you came from. See Park Slope.

Exactly. Prospect Heights and Fort Greene almost the same way now too. Its disgusting.
  • Call Chuck Woolery..I think we have a love connection. Thanks Obamanut & Christobel. Was just thinking about how we need more love on this post not hate. How sweet.
