  • I pray that your beautiful boy will be returned to you quickly!
  • Very sad, unfortunately in this day and age these Michael Vick ghetto scumbags involved in dog fighting are everywhere, like cockroaches. Hopefully you will get your guy back safe and sound.
  • Thanks. Yeah that's what I am most worried about, but he is the sweetest boy and so shy, and also very shy of other dogs. It's his temperment, noone can change that in him. He would also be an extremely poor choice in dog baiting because he is pure bred and so impressive looking and would be such a waste to throw away just for baiting, I wouldn't see why a dog fighter would want to use a dog like this for baiting. Well, one can only hope. He is shy with other dogs and with people. He is new to the city and shy of his surroundings too.

He is intact, as he is a stud dog for a breeder in the south, who had placed him with me to give him a family home. I can only hope that someone took him for breeding and not for fighting, becase he is certainly not a fighter and would never be one. Hopefully someone will recognize him and turn him in for my cash reward. He has a powerful presence and like I was saying would be impossible to miss on the street. He is around 100pounds of bulldog and looks and acts like a big english bulldog. Thankfully I have a large network here in NYC and friends high up in the police force, and we will never give up our search.
  • I really hope you get your dog back. Did you contact FIDO? They have a large network and will put out alerts to their group to be on the look for him.

Also, I'm not trying to pour salt on your wounds, but if you are lucky enough to get him back, please leave him home if you are running errands. I see way too many dogs tied up outside and way too many sad stories about theft, baiting, etc. I'm sure you're heartbroken. I hope this discourages at least one person from taking their dogs out with them when they can't be with them the whole time.
  • I know and I feel horrible for it. He was new to the city as he grew up being a kennel dog in the country on a lot of open land. I got him about 3 months ago. He was very nervous about his surroundings here and I have been trying to take him everywhere with me so that he is always around people. I normally never tie him out, but thought I would run in quickly to grab something and he was also tied right in front of the window in a lot of light. It only takes 2 minutes with your back turned for something like this to happen, and I was very naive to think that it would be ok. I never thought someone would pull him into a car and drive off like this. Let it be another lesson for people to never let their dogs out of their sight, even if they have a large breed like this which may look intimidating to people.

I am going to contact FIDO now, thank you for your help. It's appreciated.
  • I know you feel bad. I'm not trying to make you feel worse - just trying to remind people that it only takes a minute. Poor booboo...I hope he's being fed and kept warm.

I hope Fido can help. Keep us posted, please

Also, is he microchipped? Call the CACC, local vets, vet hospitals, etc. to keep an eye out for him
  • Rescue Ink often helps find lost and stolen dogs. Here is the website:http://www.rescueink.org/

They got a lot of press recently when they found a stolen dog on the West Side (I think). Time of of the essence, so contact them asap.

    Good luck!
  • UPDATE!

Someone almost had him! He was found 15 minutes after the incident in my area running on the street. Someone almost had him in her driveway but he got scared and ran away....this gives me some extra hope which I really need right now. He got away from whoever unhooked him...I just really hope he doesn't freeze out there! He is so shy, it will be almost impossible for a stranger to catch him. He's quick!

Someone sent me Rescue Ink's website today as well. I will contact them first thing in the morning and send them an email now. Thanks!

I have to contact all the local shelters twice per day now to see if someone turns him in, and also as many vets as I can. Thanks for the positive thoughts!

BTW, he's not microchipped. I got him 3 months ago and just received his registry tags a couple months ago which he was wearing.
  • Yay! He's around somewhere. I hope somebody can catch him. Do you have a lot of signs up in the area?

Also, what is his name? Does he come when called? I don't see his name on your posters. Perhaps since he's so shy he might come if somebody calls him by name
  • His name is "Shmeaty" short for Meathead. He comes when I call him but other people haven't had the same luck! He is really wary of strangers and timid.

I am printing new posters with his name, and larger ones. I hope he's ok!
  • I'm so sorry you lost your dog.
Any new sightings or updates? In what area was he spotted so I can keep an eye out??
I hope you can get him back soon.
  • Thank you. He was last spotted on Ainslie by Lorimer
  • I think he's found! Got an email stating they have what looks to be my boy! They said I can't go to get him until tomorrow but I will make sure to post back when I go to identify him and myself :D

Yay! I hope there is a happy ending! Why not until tomorrow? Can't they send you pictures or something tonight?

Once he's safe and sound, you need to get his tags on, get him microchipped and never let him out of your sight again. You also need to give him extra treats and kisses.
  • neuter him while you are at it.

...it would make him less attractive to breeders.

I doubt it would help in this situation, however.
  • He is a stud dog for one of the top breeders in the bully-type American Bulldog world...a breeder who is also an international level judge. He was placed with me to give him a family home and in exchange for a lot of design work, however he still holds stud rights. Won't be neutered ever..but he won't be in this situation again ever...he is worth too much as a stud and my pet to be careless ever again. He's getting microchipped when I get him back too. His tags were on when he was lost. And yes he will indeed be spoiled rotten all day tomorrow :D I took the day off to shower him with attention and love all day.

I couldn't get him today because the shelter was closed. I got a phone call from the AC+C, and his identity was confirmed. It's him!! I will be there when the shelter opens to pick him up! Someone had found him on Metropolitan. I am so glad he is safe and was dropped off at a private no-kill shelter.
  • Yay! So happy Schmeaty is coming home safe.
  • Insum, you are a moron.
  • Thanks modsquad. And you are a complete fucking twat. :) Glad to meet your e-quaintance.

    ----

But yeah, to the rest of the crew here, I've had him for three months. I licensed him when I got him, and I thought the breeder had microchipped him (it's usual practice to do this). So he will be microchipped and insured when he returns. I have to cancel the police report for grand larseny now too.
  • You have won a lottery indeed! Not many people get their dogs back
especially high dollar dogs. I don't mean to preach but PLEASE never
leave this beautiful guy tied up anywhere. I was sick about your boy
and feared for him. There are very few happy endings, I'm glad this
beautiful boy had one. I'd love to run into a store while strolling with
my dog but I know it only takes a minute for her to go missing. So I
take the walk home and come back out - no matter the weather/temp.
I'm sure you have learned this the hard way. Anyway, I'm just so happy
this beautiful boy has found his way home. Smooches to Shmeaty.
    Yeah.
  • Thanks Reggi :) And Modsquad, you are quite the sensitive type aren't ya. Don't get those lil panties too bunched up now.

He's back home safe. Won't be doing that again and probably won't be using a dog walking service with this boy either. Too many twat's out there ;)

A Big shout out to Sara and to BARC. Great people!
  • this like totally made my day i was so sad when reading the original post...
