So it's the Year of the Ox and I want to get some sort of asian food take out. Could be thai, chinese.. etc... Just want cheap but good food delivered. Anyone have their favorite dish in the area you'd recommend?

I have to admit I only really eat chinese for lunch and that's in the city so I'm clueless around here.

  • I think Hunan Delight (718-789-1400) is the best of the bunch in your general area. They used to deliver to me but stopped when they got busy because a bunch of places closed. The steamed (or fried) chicken dumplings are delish, the soups are good, I usually end up with General Tso's Chicken. Happy New Year - you've inspired me, Chinese it is tonight!
  • Glad to see you had such an outpouring of love from your fellow Brooklynians.

I had hot & sour soup, pan seared pork dumplings, shrimp spring rolls and General Tso's from Szechuan Garden on Court. In PS now it's really only Hunan Delight and Red Hot, I think Red Hot is too greasy, others disagree.
I don't know Thai in the Slope to save my life.

Oh and to the dude that wants to open a business on 5th Ave? Better than decent Chinese that delivers to Carroll Gardens is at the top of my list!
  • we've been liking tofu on 7th lately.
  • For true new year banquets with authentic, family-style dishes, bring friends to Pacificana in Sunset Park (813 55th St, Brooklyn, NY 11220, 718-871-2880) or Jing Fong in Manhattan's Chinatown (20 Elizabeth St 2nd Fl, New York, NY 10013-4802, 212-964-5256). Both Chinese restaurants celebrate BIG.

Hunan Delight, here in Park Slope on Union St, is great for fresh food, but if you want spectacular dragons, head out of this 'hood.

If you have a favorite Thai dish, you should order it from all the Thai restaurants to help you find your favorite. My favorite Thai-tasting soups come from an Asian fusion restaurant, Nana, and a sushi place, Kiku, both on 5th Avenues. On 7th Avenue, Rice, Watana, Beet, and Mango are good. I have some issues with Lemon Grass Grill (sometimes the food arrives WRONG or is too greasy and the staff can be rude) and I stopped ordering from Taste of Thai, also on 7th Avenue, due to small portions and large price issues. Overall, Thai food in Park Slope is OK. Slope's Indian and Mexican food cries for improvement but Thai food is usually fresh, reasonably priced, and well-seasoned. I'm not a fan of Long Tan, though, and I haven't ordered from Song since that spring roll drama.
  • Mr. Wonton on 7th
  • I ended up going with a crappy chinese place by my house. It was weird. I don't think I got the food I ordered: my crispy chicken with garlic sauce came in a BBQ like sauce and my mongolian beef sorta came in a light brown sauce.... next time I'll do Hunan delight
  • I'm late to the party, but I totally second Mr. Wonton.
