Friend looking for a job- any help? — Brooklynian

Friend looking for a job- any help?

Ok I know this is a long shot (and yes we've done the CL searching/monster and all that...) I have a friend who is trying to get her first office job. She's having a rough time (esp. in this economy!) trying to find anything at all, including temping. She's willing to work for $10 an hour and is really smart/types 75 wpm and is a fast, hard worker...but her resume sucks. She has basic MS office skills and would be a great CHEAP addition to an office staff, especially in a semi-temp capacity.

Does anyone work for a company that is looking for anything that might be super entry level? Even something temporary would be ok as it would aid her in her resume building. A lot of you know me and I wouldn't intentionally screw anyone over with a shitty worker...I really have faith in her and feel bad for her situation.

Anyone?!

Awesome, thanks :) I remember when I worked a regular office job we always had temps in doing shitty work like data entry from spreadsheets or archiving old files and whatnot, something like that would be perfect
  • Has she called temp agencies? I know the receptionist in my local office is from Kelly Services
  • Carmen,

What is your friend's ideal job (based on her level of experience, anyway)? In other words, were the economy not so bad right now, in what industry would your friend really be attempting to get into?

  • I dont really think there is a plan, just something to get out of retail/service jobs. The job market is going to be shitty for a while so I think she wants to try to get some skills ASAP to be competitive when things start to turn around.
  • FYI, I got this in my in box today (don't be put off by the name):

If she can't find a paying job, she may want to get an internship and if she does a good job, she may work her way into a paying gig.
