What is the best cell phone to buy for texting?

i have the samsung alias and I love it. It's the one that flips both horizontally and vertically, which still bugs people out even though its an old phone.

small, qwerty keyboard. i have it on verizon though, not sure if you can get it through ATT

The Razr has a smart key that actually works, unlike the CRAPPY chocolat which sucks for texting.

Check out the Pantech Slate. It looks a lot like a Blackberry, but doesn't have "smartphone" features. Just a cell phone with a QWERTY keyboard. ATT has it:

Can any cell phone be used with Cingular/ATT or can I only buy phones from them?

You don't have to buy a phone from them, but you need one that is compatible. ATT uses GSM technology, as does TMobile. Any unlocked GSM phone (easily identified as any phone that uses a SIM card) will work with either carrier. But a locked phone is locked to only a specific carrier.

Most phone retailers, though, sell ATT phones, so you can buy one almost anywhere. Many retailers also sell unlocked phones, though they will typically be more expensive.
