You have no idea how close I was to doing just that-LOL!

    You got it, sugar. :)

Together with a guaranteed rant in rant and rave.

    :)

Ha! Depends on how long she stays. Under 48 hours and we might be ok
  • Oh yes, so just got back from dinner with a Brooklynian friend (out yourself if you wish, or not) and this place is amazing. Started off with an aperitif suggested by the owner/manager(?). Can't remember what exactly was in it but very very good. We split the pancetta, onions and red sauce app. The pasta rocks. Entrees were a sea food combo (clams, shrimp, mussels, etc.) for her, rack of lamb for me. The lamb was on par with the best I've ever had. Good wine list as well. Only two other couples in the joint all night. Just do yourself a favor and go! Very attentive service, great food, reasonable cost. Win/win/win.
  • ok, my mama (or my next date) is taking me here. I'm convinced
  • The pancetta dish, I think is the same that has been talked about here. I thought it was flavorful and rich, but one thing, that's just me. I would have liked some linguini or more of a bow tie or flat noodle with it. It came with a spaghetti noodle that didn't do the sauce justice as far as picking up the sauce.

The waiter was very attentive, and ready to please. They were all extremely sweet and charming. Please go and enjoy a place where you are trully catered to. Cool place. (free biscotti with check awesome!)
  • We didn't stick around for dessert but should have. That looked great as well. We went pretty much based on this thread and the rave is well deserved. Thanks LTSloper and veets!

Great conversation and a good time too! But you may have to go with Mama to guarantee that. :)
  • I am so happy to hear that we all agree that this is just a terrific restaurant.

I looked at the menu online and that's the dish I kept focusing on
  • Awesome!! i'm so glad to hear all the great reviews as well. DH and I went the other night...it was fabulous. In fact, I prefer it 100 times more than a di la (personally i don't get all the hype that place gets). Bu thte food was outstanding, I agree the owner goes above and beyond and is extremely attentive as well as the wait staff. Very friendly and helpful on items selections.

I had the chicken with steak with mashed potatoes which was very flavorful and my DH had the chicken with peppers, olives and capers. Also, delicious.
  • I think the meat selections are probably where it's at. I also think they need to get more people in on a regular basis so the turn around on the seafood is fresher. I had the mixed seafood main dish with squid ink pasta. the pasta was good. but the mussels were a bit dry and shriveled. Probably cooked too long, could have used some sauce too. It was only lightly tossed in sauce.

Over all a pleasant experience. Also the company was fabulous :P
  • Gee, did you like the food mama? It is sounding like you didn't!

Have had fish a number of times there and always found it very good (sea bass specifically).
  • I did like it! The pancetta dish was great, the seafood one was good too, except for the mussels (a little dry) the pasta was great the shrimp and clams were good. I just wanted it too have some sauce and the mussels to be more juicy.(the lamb chops looked DIVINE!)
  • Were the lamb chops a special that night? hubby loves lamb and I don't remember seeing it on the menu, though, it's not something I would look for.
  • Yeah it was a special. Voodoo was drooling over them. I should have snagged a bite but I was too busy digging into my pasta.
  • The rack of lamb was amazing. It had been marinated in some kind of mustard/horseradish thing. I should have shared with Mama but was too distracted devouring it. I want to go back and try the sea bass.
  • I had a great taste experience with the swordfish last weekend and Sat. night one of our companions had a whole fish (might have been sea bass) and it was terrific. Mussels can dry out pretty easily if only tiny bit over-cooked. Mama.. I bet if you go again and ask that the dish be served with more sauce the chef will prepare it to your requirements. How many restaurants would be that accomodating? I bet special requests would be honored pretty easily here.
  • I'm going to have to check this place out, its right down the st from my apartment- how much are entrees (14-18 if i remember correctly?) Hows the wine list priced?
  • Yeah entrees were in the teens, they have about 5 red and 5 whites by the glass, around $6 to $8. Bottles started around $20 I think, so very reasonable.

And yes, SUPER accomodating. The pancetta pasta wasn't even a special last night, but we requested it based on this thread and he was happy to oblige. He basically said he would make us anything we wanted.
  • How big are the pasta plates? IE if the manslut and I wanted to order takeout could we split one?
  • Hmm, i wouldn't say the entrees are in the teens, the pastas are. But, I bet your lamb dish was in the $25 range.

Did they do the pancetta pasta as an appy for you instead of a full blown pasta entree, was that the difference? Because i know they always have the pasta with pancetta.

  • Carmen I would say, if you are going to do the pasta to get two dishes and then you can try from each.
  • LTS: Thanks for the menu! They did do the pancetta pasta as an app for us and served it in two separate bowls. I had no idea it was an entree.

Carmen: If the pancetta we split was entree-sized, it probably would be a little small to share with boytoy. Not really sure though cause he served it to us as an app.

And damnit, we should have gotten the Flambe. Next time.
  • The flambe is amazing! I love how acommodating they are also! We usually order one pasta to share and then we each get an entree. Because they know we are sharing the pasta, they just naturally bring it out in 2 separate plates.

one time when we were there, hubby ordered a meat special entree that came with a side of broccoli rabe, hubby being who he is, wanted some sort of potato with it. The chef happily added some mashed potatoes to the dish and didn't even charge us extra for it.
  • Thanks for the info everyone- I know this is sort of off topic, but does Aunt Suzes have those notorious homestyle italian giant portions? Sometimes we just want to eat out something sorta cheap and pasta was my standby back home (out of the city) but here the portion sizes are usually much too small to share...
  • Personally, i think aunt Suzie's is gross! Not saying you have to go eat at expensive italian restaurants every night, but, I know pizza places that do better pasta dishes than Aunt Suzie's.

Hubby says I am pickier because I am italian, but, I think I just know what tastes good and what doesn't, and Aunt Suzie's doesn't. JMO of course.
  • I'm italian as well...no one can beat MY home made marinara and meatballs ;) But sometimes I'm too lazy to cook...
