Cafe Tapeo lately — Brooklynian

Cafe Tapeo lately

edited November -1 in Park Slope
I recently vistited Cafe Tapeo with its new chef and completely reworked menu and was wondering if any of my fellow Brooklynian's have done the same.
For what it's worth, I can be a bit of a food snob and I loved everything hubby and I ordered off the new menu. All the new choices are so much more cohesive and yummy then in the past.
This is not a shill, trust me!! I love this place, live on the block, and hate to see it virtually empty night after night.
Thoughts please...

  • where is it?
  • Oops sorry, that might help. Its at 5th ave and Bergen. Sorry about that!
  • I've wanted to go because I do love the owners and I think they are great guys and awesome people to have in the nabe. But after a few people said how small the portions are (I'm a big eater) and how pricey it was I figured I'd wait.

    What did you have there?
  • I liked the old menu. The last time we went I was sad to see all my favorites gone from the menu and pretty much nothing I eat on it, but I am a picky/limited eater (no cheese, olives, fish). We've not gone back.
  • I like Tony and Christian a lot. Really great guys. I'm with you on the dish size/prices though. All the food I've had has been very good. But for what you pay and how much you get, I cannot afford to do a meal there in these times. I really liked the happy hour they had going for awhile, the $5 carafe of wine and 3 apps for 10 bucks. I was going a least once a week, but once that went away so did I unfortunately.
  • They should bring back that happy hour special, it does sound reasonable. It can be a recession special :alien:
  • I can't remember exactly what we ordered...it was my bday and I was drinking just a little (or a lot  ). We had a few of the fish choices (shrimp and octopus) and something with delicious lamb, plus one other thing I loved, but can't remember what was in it. We did the extra portion size on two things and were perfectly satisfied. Although a little pricey, I didn't think it was more then most decent places in the slope.

I don't usually get home before 7 or 8 so didn't realize that special was gone. I always wanted to check it out, but never got the chance. maybe they'd bring it back with a little persuading!
  • the chef Mick Pirnik quit.. inbd it happens
  • Correction he was fired and a new chef was hired the following day. Smooth transition I might add
  • Did I mention he just got fired from his latest job for yet another meltdown
  • It's closed for good. I think the Black Sheep pub is taking over and turning this into an Irish gastropub or something like that.
  • 780425abm is one of the owners Christina.

Abm, can you give us an update?
  • Its open tonight for the first time (I think) as a bar; and, its jam packed from what we saw walking home. Didn't really see inside yet, so can't offer any more details about decor, etc. I definitely plan on checking it out in the near future though!
  • Irish pub. Gonna be pub food, too, I hope?
