Interest in Park Slope - Williamsburg shuttle
Hi. I was discussing with a friend how annoying it is to get from Park Slope to Williamsburg. You either have to take the F to the G, and the G is always a problem. Or the B/Q to Union Square to the L, which takes 45 mins + usually. How much is a cab? Just wanted to put feelers out there to see if people would make use of some kind of shuttle service between the two hoods. Like maybe at $3 a person? Leaving every 15, 20 mins or so at Thurs, Fri and Sat nights? Thoughts?

this is a great idea.
a cab is at least $12, not including tip. -
First some good ideas: Go to the city auction over on Kent and pick up a used police 15 passenger van for say around 1000. Then hand paint it up all clever so people know what it is. Hell you can even get one of those small school buses for a few 1000.
Here's the problems though. The city is not particularly happy when someone try's to make money on it's shortcomings and taxis and car services pay taxes to the city for the privilege of operating so as soon as some taxi or car service sees you taking a fare away they will call the TLC cops on you. The only reason the dollar vans are still operating is because of the sheer size of the protest when the city tried to shut them down. Another issue is insurance. You can get insurance of course but as soon as you have an accident and 15 strangers file claims, the company is going to want to know what the hell you are doing. I'm sure there is small print requiring you to get proper permits or what not for operating a van or bus for passengers. I'm also sure the insurance rate is a lot higher.
Hey Good Luck though! It's a great idea! -
I totally agree that it sucks getting there and especially home. And the taxi is way more than 12. I have friends in W burg and Gpoint that I never visit because it's too hard tp get home.

There is already a shuttle bus that goes from Williamsburg to Borough Park, all the time, haven't you seen it? Only problem is, men have to sit in the front and women have to sit in the back

Isn't the G supposed to be going to Church Ave starting, like, now? WTF is taking the MTA so long? They said 2009. Hey, its 2009.
I totally agree. I blow so much $$ on cars to and from Williamsburg. I blame it all on The Levee's $4 shot & a beer special. Also on the Gatorita. Also on the Dreamsicle. Also on the jukebox.
But we won't need a shuttle if the G slows down and opens the doors instead of whizzing right by. -
A car service is around $20.

And I believe you're leaving out the Frito Pie.
But as I've stated in the other thread about this, I would absolutely utilize this. The long journey/hefty cab fare has kept me away from the Park Slope area in the later hours of the evening. -
And the hot dogs! And the onion dip! I'm a gonner . . .

Would love a dollar van from here to W'burg, even if it's $3.
(Advice from modsquad sounds viable on some of those details. I wonder how IKEA worked out their shuttle...o yeah, it's free and they're all IN with the city gov)
I've taken the (city) bus from Metropolitan to Eastern Parkway and walked walked walked a few times to get home . . . -

ah yes the hot dogs. such lovely companions to the cheeseballs and jenga.
seriously though, the only thing could do to the Sportsman is thank it. for existing. -
I'd use thiat service. Getting to Bedford ave is a pain. Of course if it were going to stop all over the place and take an hour I'd pass but I do think theres a market there.

does anyone know the number of the bus that one can catch at on metro ave., and, also, where it stops along the ave? where on eastern parkway does it stop? does it run frequently?
thanks so much!

seaside, he's referring to the "Orthodox bus"
...but I'm willing to bet that the Orthodox have a better name for it. -
