Un-do the curse — Brooklynian

Un-do the curse

I know the location is cursed, but my girlfriend and I ate at Playa yesterday for brunch and it was fantastic. I had the fish taco's with sweet potato fries and she had the benedict. Both were outstanding and had their own unique touches. Plus, the 4 buck bottomless Sangria is worth the trip alone. Very tastey and they are very generous. Few other people there but just wanted to put out a good word for them cause that location does not seem to have good mojo. Has anyone else been there yet?

  • there's already been a thread on it and it seemed like almost everyone disliked the place...

  • I walked by there on Sunday after having brunch somewhere else. For a place that barely seats 20 people, having half the place empty is a REALLY bad sign. There were more people at Mulino, and that place declined about four years ago.

I'm glad you liked the place, but what that restaurant serves has zero connection to what they think they're serving.
  • Yeah I can understand that. I just took it at face value. Didn't expect much and got more than what I was expecting. Didn't cost me much and I walked out with a healthy buzz and a full belly. Figure while we are all trying to pinch every penny while attempting to maintain our lifestyles it wasn't a bad bet.
  • The sangria is the best part of the brunch when I went. The food was just so-so. Not 'authentic" AT ALL. But the sangria was awesome and yes they are generous with it. I had to take a nap afterward. I would go back just based on that.
  • It's pretty sad when the only good thing that could be said about a restaurant is their sangria is good and there is plenty of it! Not that I don't love good sangria, but, shouldn't the food be noted too?
  • Good point LTS. From what I recall (LOL) the arepa was not good, it was very light in color and not flavorful. The chorizo and steak that came with my eggs were good. The fish ceviche was very good, but a small portion. Service was excellent, but the place was pretty empty so that factored in. Come to think of it, I'd most certainly go back for brunch, not sure about dinner but I had a good time at brunch.
  • I always have a good time at brunch when i am drunk-LOL! OK, I might have to go there just for the sangria, I loves me some good sangria!
  • i posted in another thread about it, but my new favorite brunch spot in park slope is getfresh on 5th and 6th street.

    i HIGHLY recommend it!

    give it a try.
  • Yeah, the sangria is def the best part of the brunch. But as I posted earlier the fish tacos that I had were good. The sweet potato fries were kick ass though, I could have eaten those all day. Haven't been for dinner, but think I'll give it a shot regardless of the bad reviews. Worst case senario is dinner sucks and I'm drunk off of sangria right?
