Terrace Bagels CLOSED by Department of Health!

Not sure why this makes me happy. Their bagels are good, awful service if you wanted anything more ambitious than a plain bagel with nothing on it.

  • O NOES! Love their bagels. And don't love the DoH, thank you very much.
  • CRAP! Does this mean I have to <gulp> go back to Bagel Hole? Have I mentioned that I hate them?
  • I bet they'll sort out whatever the problem is and get back in business...
we get Terrace bagels through the Coop -- I wonder if it's their storefront that got closed down, or the main production operation.
    (/shudder)
  • Here we go, looks like there's going to be a bagel panic, is there such a thing as bagel detox ?
  • just yesterday i ate one of their bagels with peanut butter
  • I don't really like or dislike Terrace Bs... but I generally hate to see things close (unless they totally blow) since a nail salon or bank will probably move in if they don't sort it out...

My fiance bought a dozen bagels from Bagel Hole this weekend... as much as I WANT to hate them (bad service, dodgy feel, etc) my guests and I found their bagels to be totally awesome. One of my friends actually said he felt like he was having his first real NYC bagel (and I'm quite sure he's had a LOT of bagels over the years in NYC).

    He probably was. :D
  • Uh Oh. They'll be back...and I disagree about the service. Those guys work their asses off and are very willing to go the extra mile - toasting, slicing, etc. They never get my orders wrong either
  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That is my favorite bagel store, we go out of our way to go there! Hope they fix it and re-open soon. Anyway check the Dept of health website to see what happened?

Yeah, no sliced bagels for you! Come back one year!

they've been kinda off their game lately but yea, usually no problem getting things right and quickly.
  • We get bagels from them all the time - it's our favorite bagel store! I just checked the restaurant inspection site that DOH provides and the last inspection it has for Terrace is from October 2007 - 19 points. There's no update at all that I can find. Hope they straighten this out quickly.
  • That is terrible news! I guess it Bagel Hole for us now.
  • I still say the Kosher Bagel Hole is the best. It's worth the ride on the Q or B-68.

Same with me, whenever I bring Bagel Hole bagels to work, everyone loves them and ask me where I bought them. Whenever I stop to pick them up somewhere else, very little feedback from coworkers. I say this about Bagel Hole, it's all about the bagel and at the end of the day , that's all I care about as well.

Bagel Hole is one of the few remaining places that does a real boiled bagel
  • well this answers a question i just asked on the windsor terrace board

why is this thread in the park slope section? the name of the store is TERRACE bagels
  • the store is in park slope by a couple of feet.
  • anyone who thinks terrace bagels is in park slope has no clue what their talking about

anyway terrace made the best bagels i've ever had and i'm sure they'll be back soon
  • i thought the brokers moved the boundary south to the expressway, therefore curley_greg can proudly say the Ye Olde Gentriconfrontation Inn is in Park Slope, Lia's Ices, not so much.
  • Careful, YankeeFan. You are categorically incorrect! Emotions notwithstanding, that side of Prospect Park West is DEFINITELY Park Slope. (PPW is the divider).Park Slope runs along the even numbered side of PPW AT LEAST to Prospect Avenue but probably to 20th ST. Official NYC records (Zoning, Planning etc. )bear this out.

South Park Slope Rezoning - Approved!
    Overview
Overview | Existing Context and Zoning | Proposed Zoning

    Overview

    View a larger image.
The Department of City Planning proposes zoning map changes and a zoning text amendment for 50 blocks in the South Park Slope area of Community District 7, Brooklyn. The rezoning area is generally bounded by 15th Street on the north, Fourth Avenue on the west, Prospect Park West on the east, and 24th Street and Green-Wood Cemetery on the south. The proposed zoning would protect the predominantly low-rise character of the neighborhood, reinforce several avenue corridors for mixed retail/residential buildings, and provide opportunities for apartment house construction with incentives for affordable housing on Fourth Avenue within the rezoning area.

Rowhouses on 16th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues
Within the rezoning area, more than 500 housing units have been constructed or have received building permits in the past three years. Many of these units are in buildings developed under the R6 Quality Housing program and are generally appropriately scaled and represent positive investment in the revitalization of this area. As market demand for housing within the desirable Park Slope neighborhood extends farther south, however, several out-of-scale nine to fourteen-story tower developments have been proposed that would be inconsistent with the neighborhood’s low-rise, rowhouse character.
  • what difference does it make what side of the avenue Terrace Bagel was classified as, it was closed by the BOH for good reason.

I just spoke with a long time resident , who is from India and said he would not frequent the bagel store ,as his mother had purchased a bagel that had a fly baked in it.

I asked if his concern were that of a health problem or the possibility that it may have been a relative.

He laughed and stated both were taken in consideration.
  • good one Hamilton. I always think it's funny that restaurants get closed by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
I hope to one day hear of an establishment closed not because it is unclean but because the owner is crazy.

g2bdon your clearly wrong. the divider is 8th ave. anyone who lives on 18th st, 17th, prospect ave, windsor pl or 16th, between 8th & 9th ave, lives in windsor terrace. where’d you get this idea 9th ave is the divider?

and how is the article you posted even relevant? just because the same zoning laws of park slope might soon apply to windsor doesn’t mean it is park slope or would become park slope

Having worked in the food industry, I can tell you that just about any food establishment in the city can be shut down if the inspector wants to be a hardass. Those points on their inspection sheets can rack up quicker than you would believe.

According to "Hamilton," everyone's favorite retiree busybody, everyone and everything in the neighborhood that doesn't fit in with [his? her? it?]'s warped urban Ozzie and Harriet fantasy land deserves to be shut down or thrown in jail.

Ditto. My friends and I ate out of there almost daily for decades, never a problem.

Aren't you the same person that was upset when "Pumpkin's," that useless, overpriced 'organic gourmet' market closed down? And yet seeing a popular bagel store that's been in the neighborhood for decades get shut down 'makes you happy'? Sick. I'm glad to see you've got your priorities in order, with the rest of the neighborhood newcomers.
