you need to open soon. 1 cent drinks or not, 5th ave is way too far for me to walk
-
any updates, one of the store owners on the avenue said it seems that nothing has been done for the last two weeks.

Stop being lazy and asking me for piggy back rides. -

Don't be mad 'cause I said no.

do you think some of you might be bugging him? i’m sure the guy wants to open it just as much as you want to go there but let him take his time and do what he needs to do and he’ll open it when hes ready. at least thats the way i see it

I'm guessing he' okay with it, especially since it shows we're all eager to support his new business. Plus, if we're bugging him now, wait until we're all drunk and at his bar

-
I saw people working there just this past Sunday.

BTW, originally we thought this was going to be a performance venue.
I think there was an article published on Brownstoner, saying that the owner already has a performance venue in LES and is opening one in WT.
Will this be just a bar, or a bar + other fun stuff? -

Greg already stated it would be just a bar. -
i heard it would be a combination bar and restaurant
anyway whatever he calls it, right now i just hope he includes the word “windsor” in the title. i’m just getting annoyed by the real estate people who keep trying to stretch the borders of park slope. call it “windsor nightfall” or “windsor bar” or “windsors ye olde gentriconfrontation inn”. just proudly say its part of windsor terrace
nobody dislikes the name of terrace bagels, windsor café, windsor shoes, or windsor wines, so why not? -
I wouldn't consider a restaurant "other fun stuff". I think the other partner owns a sandwich shop, so I don't think it will be a full on restaurant.
I just want a bar. More emphasis on music, less on food. -
live music? well curleygreg said this just is going to be a low key, local neighborhood thing. he said it won't be anything like the cake shop and won't be a club at all
but once you have live music it wouldn't exactly be a local thing. the live bands would attract some people who live in williamsburg, the lower eastside, and even new jersery to make a trip to windsor terrace and spend their friday and saturday nights hanging out on 9th avenue -

I'm not sure if you are saying that that is a bad thing, and I don't want to jump to conclusions and assume that is how you meant it.
but once you have live music it wouldn't exactly be a local thing. the live bands would attract some people who live in williamsburg, the lower eastside, and even new jersery to make a trip to windsor terrace and spend their friday and saturday nights hanging out on 9th avenue
But in my opinion, I think it would probably be good for all the local businesses on 9th avenue if that was the case occasionally. -
when circles first opened it had live bands on weekends and it didn't work, the 72nd pct was there every Friday and Saturday evenings, due excessive noise and unruly patrons.
I don't see how neighborhood businesses would benefit from a late night crowd, as everything shuts down early on the avenue. -
yea, there isn't really a big PPW bar scene. I don't think they need to have concerts, but small acoustic sets a la Bar 4 would probably be pretty inoffensive to the neighborhood.
-
Thanks for the insight. I'm relatively new to the area and I'm only down on 9th Avenue during the day time on the weekends. Wasn't trying to offend anyone if that is how it came off.
I would say that some sort of acoustic music would be nice, but at this point with shops closing left and right, I just wish CurleyGreg success.
Looking forward to patronizing the new place. -
Oh good god, please no acoustic music. I believe CurleyGreg agrees with me on this one.
-
i really don’t care if the music is acoustic or electric. all i care about is that the bands would not draw large crowds from all over city and beyond to make 9th avenue their friday and saturday night hang out spot
curleygreg said he likes windsor terrace just as a quiet neighborhood and is not looking to change that. and says this will not be anything like the cake shop or a club at all. so as long as he keeps his word about that, there should be no problem -
Let's let the place open before we pick it apart ;-)

I don't think anyone is picking it apart at all.
Why I don't understand is why YankeeFan is driven to maintain WT as it was during it's lowest point in terms of cultural events. The Pavillion used to be a vaudeville theater, there use to be more in this neighborhood!
I am also a native of NYC (just not of PS/WT) and I also hate the "outsiders" coming in and changing what NYC used to be (Starbucks? WTF?), but anyone into live music are not the ones we should be hating on. Besides, CurleyGreg already said there will be no live music. I don't think the residential neighbors will support it. I wish there was accessible live music nearby though. Barbes gets too packed for it to be enjoyable. -
So, Retag, what constitutes an "outsider" and do you really hate THEM for bringing in Starbucks. I've been here 12+ years and I can count on ONE hand how many times I've had Starbucks in my entire life - and none of those were from the one in PS.

Let's not have another old-vs-new debate. Let's discuss the Gentriconfrontation Inn! We need it!
I have never been to Rhythm-n-Booze, but I am strongly considering it on days with bad weather. I don't watch sports, so the places main sell is a turn off for me. But I do like burgers. -
i’ve been inside different star bucks a few times. but only because they all have public bathrooms. never tried any of their star bucks coffee or anything
actually the pavillion was never a venue for vaudeville. your thinking of the sanders movie theater which was in the pavilions space years before. but i’m told the sanders only had vaudeville for about one year or so in the mid 1970’s and it didn’t work out, hence it closed. my memories of growing up in windsor terrace when that movie building was vacant all through the 1980’s and early-mid 1990’s, are of the neighborhood at its nicest i‘ve ever seen it. when the pavilion first opened it changed the neighborhood in many ways i was not fond of -

a) we definitely need the Gentriconfrontation Inn
I have never been to Rhythm-n-Booze, but I am strongly considering it on days with bad weather. I don't watch sports, so the places main sell is a turn off for me. But I do like burgers.
b) YOU are the one who opened the old-v-new debate with hating on people, talking about starbucks, etc. So, to say that and then say "let's not have that debate....." well... I'm just sayin' -

but the important question is: Will there be delicious cheeseburgers at the Gentriconfrontation inn? -
WOW. so much to reply to... first of all, no one is bothering me!! actually, someone had it right by saying it's pretty thrilling for me to see all the interest in the place. i have been really busy the last couple months... working on the space hasn't stopped at any point, but the big stuff is done so it might seem like things have stopped. i've been there working 7 days a week since mid december (or before?) and can assure you, it's taking shape!
one thing i want to talk about is that i think there's a lot of concern about whether or not the new place will affect the neighborhood in a bad way. as an inhabitant of WT for (only) 6 years, i can completely understand why. i would feel the same way in any neighborhood i lived if i saw a storefront under construction near my house. so, on the one hand i want to ease those concerns somehow by saying that me and my two business partners are all residents of WT (the other two have been here for a lonnnng time) and we want to open something we think would go over well with a wide segment of the neighborhood... but on the other hand, we can only do so much to please everyone.
can't give an exact date on opening still... it's obviously later than we were shooting for, but we're in the final stretch now so....
oh, and the name. we have it narrowed down to a good solid 3 or 4. one of which i'm really pulling for DOES reflect the name of the hood. but i can't say anymore about it... i'm very superstitious about these things.
later!

Yay!
I can't wait to check it out. Thanks for replying, Greg. I've been watching the progress and just know there's something good going on behind the covering.
You are right that you are never going to please everybody........as long as you please ME ;-)
ok.... kidding (sort of)...
I am sure you'll have something to offer for many people and if those are the people who aren't currently served by the Farrell's option, you'll definitely have a few fans from that alone. -
curleygreg, can we at least get a sneak peak?

Flexichick wrote: YOU are the one who opened the old-v-new debate with hating on people, talking about starbucks, etc. So, to say that and then say "let's not have that debate....." well... I'm just sayin'
Trust me, I am on your side. It is YankeeFan that is hesitant about have a live music locale in the hood, since it will not just be for WT residents. I merely stated that although I understand how he feels, it's time to move on.
In my short lifetime, I experience the pre-Giuliani and post-Giuliani. Life was different before Giuliani. NYC, including Manhattan, was nothing but many separate neighborhoods. Today, every street is almost the same. Giuliani passed the big-box store law in 1995 which also dramatically affected how NYC changed. If you weren't here before Giuliani, you won't understand the difference.
That said, as crappy as NYC has become, it still is the best city in the US. -
A bit of the scaffolding/covering was down earlier on Saturday and I could see some of the new frontage. Looked really nice!
-
Come on CurleyGreg, just one picture!!!! We must have a sneak-peak!!!!
