  • belz; I agree, and I've been on both sides of that counter. However, my personal experience there has been to be totally ignored. I entered that store twice, and both times, the hipster working there didn't even acknowledge me. Maybe I am too old......

ok ok i can find something nice to say about bodhi tree..

    as far as i know
their counter girl DID have enough respect
to NOT post what she overheard her
    customers talking about.

(support my local whine store LOL no f'ing chance)
  • Just talked to a couple of guys coming out of Bohdi Tree spot. They said a deli cafe is going in. Tables and wifi, outdoor seating in nice weather.

Not sure if they were the owners, but were very friendly and wanted to know what I thought about that versus the clothing store that just closed. I was in a time crunch to take the dog on a snow tasting/roll fest so I couldn't stay and chat.
  • AWESOME! Wifi on my corner with outdoor seating...LOVE IT! did they say when they were thinking about opening?

First of all there are a lot of Mom and Pop businesses who do well and have been in business for a very long time, in and out of Park Slope. Not all of them are struggling. But, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if you treat the customer like shit, you will eventually fail. By all means, go ahead and frequent a place that treats you like crap, me I'll go where I'm treated with respect and kindness.

Now that sounds like a great idea. Thank goodness not another nail place.
  • I find much peace in knowing that this blog is a small minority of people (comprised of about 10 regulars) who have no clue of what they are talking about.

Wow, great news since I'm a block away from there.

Can someone let me know where this NoNo place was? I've Googled it, but I can only find the NoNO Kitchen, which I've gathered is not what we're talking about in this thread.
  • Nope, that's it. NoNO Kitchen, on 7th avenue around 8th street.

That's the one... I'm afraid I kinda hijacked the thread by commenting about other potential business closures.
  • Ah, thanks. In reviewing this thread, I think I was just confused because it took an immediate turn towards the retail stores.

I only ate at NoNO once during Restaurant Week last year (or the year before). Not bad, but nothing special enough to bring me back, either. Hopefully we'll get another restaurant to take over (no more nail salons or cellphone stores for the love of god).

Woo~! I am excited, that is not far from me at all!

I hope you included yourself in that number, otherwise jack it up to 11.

i am starting to truly believe that part of the service you receive is based on the vibes people give off. not entirely, but if you are going into a store thinking already that everyone who works there (even though personnel probably changes often) are "fkn rude assholes" then you are probably going to get treated poorly.
I'm pretty sure my vibes are good thanks - and I've shopped at Lola, Neda, Goldy & Mac & Brooklyn4Play, etc, and always had great experiences. Like ljnd and Carmen I think the crappy attitude was most likely an age thing, since I'm also in the 40+ bracket and hardly a trend-setter Like many on here, I've worked retail and appreciate how far a friendly welcome can take you.
  • I actually am their target "age group" I think....but I guess wearing jeans and a teeshirt makes me too broke :(

Just a nonesense comment here but I discovered long ago that if you want to shop ( used this in high end department stores) and not be bothered then it worked if you went to the store underdressed.

This worked very well in Aaron's on 5th ave across the street from Eagle when I went in there in the 80's and 90's with full intention to drop a lot of money on buying suits fror work. The sales people worked on commission so if you "looked" the look someone approached you immediately and was aggressive. Eventually, some sales lady would give me the "can I help you" and I would say sure, and they would tell me their name and promptly walk away.

An hour later when I would make my selections I would find that lady again (who never bothered me while I was really shopping) with a load of garments in my arms and the look on her face when she realized she was about to make a sizeable commision on having done nothing to help me was priceless

Meandering over.. If I go in a store and I am not acknowledged at all I lose interest in shopping there. I don't want overly eager sales people but a greeting sure is nice.
  • Sorry, i can't resist.
Do you know what it's like when you cheerfully say hello to someone only to realize they're talking on their cell? And then you have to awkwardly "greet" them again when they can hear you?! The general decline in civility is on both sides. But a decade of superrich people buying brownstones has made it unbearable to work here.
  • I am with you on this one Chipster!

Of any store the ones that irk me the most as far as being ignored are Book Stores. Call me ole fashioned but I won't do b and N. I want someone who offers the help when I walk in or at least a greeting and when I pay for my selections has the grace to say SOMETHING about what I have chosen... even if they complement me and are lying!

    was that a rant?
Am I on the wrong thread?

Bringing it all back home.. I will miss NO NO and I think the OP presented this thread with a terrific Header.

Any update to the deli cafe opening at the former Bodhi Tree location?
  • Ooooh...I did not know this. I hope it's a nice spot.
  • I live on the block, if I see anyone working I'll inquire
  • Same here, Carmen. I'll peek in on the way to the Y this afternoon.
