  • Obamanutz.
you are a prime example of the effects of excessive masturbation as a child and are probably still at it.
your experience in the food industry was that of a dish washer or maybe a waiter at the now defunct Circles, which was famous for hiring the inept ,who would work for substandard wages..

I think you should get back on meds as you are delusional and sound like a candidate for the asshole of the year award .

You are perceived as a cartoon character and a buffoon , but don't let that stop you from posting you irrational rants.

    Stay out of the bathroom.

Funny, experience as even a dishwasher would probably qualify me for bigger things than being an unemployed, idle, neighborhood tattle-tale.

Speaking of masturbation, there's an idea for you to let off some of that excess energy that you normally reserve for such urgent matters as "unsightly" Spanish radio station bus stop ads featuring overweight Colombians.

I just spoke with a long time resident , who is from India and said he would not frequent the bagel store ,as his mother had purchased a bagel that had a fly baked in it.
Having worked in the food industry, I can tell you that just about any food establishment in the city can be shut down if the inspector wants to be a hardass. Those points on their inspection sheets can rack up quicker than you would believe.

According to "Hamilton," everyone's favorite retiree busybody, everyone and everything in the neighborhood that doesn't fit in with [his? her? it?]'s warped urban Ozzie and Harriet fantasy land deserves to be shut down or thrown in jail.

You say that I come off as a 'woman' because I 'bitch'? I think an apology is in order for that crassly sexist comment. I'll have you know that here in enlightened Park Slope, we have transcended all gender stereotypes, and thus individuals like you and your old fashioned thinking are no longer welcome. image

Sorry to disappoint you , but I am not an unemployed, idle, tattle tale ,but someone who does something to create a better community where I live , something you are not capable of understanding, because your life standards are substandard and you dwell in the past and are afraid to the deal with the present.
And as someone said, isn't time to change the light bulbs in the hallway of your mothers building .

And, if you enjoy looking at fat overweight colombians go right ahead with your perverse enjoyment, values://img217.exs.cx/img217/8769/emotfappery4ip.gif">

If you represent Park Slope,it's time for owners to sell their property.

The only apology due is from your parents , who didn't seek help for you when you use to post as Restless Native, get a life your old news in Park Slope and don't forget to change the light bulbs for mom.
  • I don't like the thought of being in agreement in any capacity in the same thread with Obamanut but the fact is that Terrace Bagels is in Windsor Terrace. Regardless of what the NYC.gov website zoning mumbo jumbo says or a bunch of annoying and bastardly realtors might tell you 15th street is the southern border of Park Slope. I am quite confident if you asked a large majority of the people south of 15th Street in Windsor Terrace if they lived in Windsor Terrace or Park Slope an overwhelming majority would answer Windsor Terrace and would prefer it that way. I really like Park Slope and it is a great neighborhood but there are other great neighborhoods too and they are not defined by realtors or people looking to impress others by pronouncing they reside in the famous Park Slope instead of correctly saying they live in the lesser known and thus less impressive Windsor Terrace. Is this really important? No but I like details such as this and what is right is right.
Anyway I went in this morning to get some bagels and tuna salad not too long before it was apparently closed down. I've bought bagels and such from this place many many times and never had a health issue or problem. The bagels have always been delicious and they always get my order right and when they are busy they do a good job of keeping the line moving and somehow keeping a chaotic line in order. I hope they re-open soon and get this all straightened out. If you don't like their bagels or have some other issue causing you to dislike Terrace Bagels then just go somewhere else in "Park Slope" and shut up.

Does an official NYC map with the Park Slope borders outlined in blue, highlighted as "South Park Slope Rezoning Area" and INCLUDING Prospect Park West as the eastern border help you understand? The relevance of the post was to show you the official borders of Park Slope and that Terrace Bagels is in Park Slope. Take a moment and check: for example, every street address on 16th St bet 8th Ave and PPW is ABSOLUTELY in southern Park Slope. Let go of the past. Things change.
  • Nah, I'd still call it Windsor Terrace. Real estate and rezoning be damned.

My question is, were they open this morning?

    p.s.
MOD NOTE: no name calling, kthx. I can't bring myself to read through the squabble above, but please...you guys know the rules. Play nice.
  • Please! that neighborhood is Windsor Terrace and everyone knows it! I am sure they are going to re-open
  • Subject: They were scrubbing away this AM

FWIW on my way to work I passed the shop, 4 folks were outside literally scrubbing the signs, doors and sidewalk. Expect a cleaner TB soon, I guess.
  • The DOH can close you down for anything. A fly in your bagel? Do you know how many fly parts are acceptable in your peanut butter:
Insect filth: Average of 30 or more insect fragments per 100 grams
Rodent filth: Average of 1 or more rodent hairs per 100 grams

To quote from an article about "natural contaminants"

"This is Gross, but is it Dangerous?"
Quite the contrary. "They're actually pretty healthy," says Dr. Philip Nixon, an entomologist at the University of Illinois, in regard to insects, "If we were more willing to accept certain defect levels such as insects and insect parts, growers could reduce pesticide usage. Some of the spraying that goes on is directly related to the aesthetics of our food."

  • From Gothamist:
Terrace Bagels Closed For "Vermin Infestation" Earlier today a reader sent us this photo in an e-mail wondering why popular Windsor Terrace bagel cafe, Terrace Bagel, had its security gates rolled down as of 10 a.m. We got on the horn with the folks at Terrace, and an employee who picked up divulged that the eatery had "big problems" and would be closed "for a while."

When pressed for an explanation, he handed the phone off to a manager, who said there was some construction upstairs causing problems with the plumbing. No biggie; they'd reopen in two or three days, he assured us. The Health Department, on the other hand, has a different story. Per a spokesperson:

Terrace Bagels was closed on Monday, February 2 following a routine annual inspection that found a vermin infestation. An estimated 40 rat droppings and approximately 170 mice droppings were found in five different areas of the establishment, including food storage areas in the basement and kitchen.

The establishment was also cited for rodent harborage conditions and holes enabling rodent access, and dairy items kept at unsafe temperatures. In order to reopen, Terrace Bagels must correct all conditions that led to violations, submit an affidavit of correction to the Health Department and schedule a re-opening inspection.
Given the results of their last known inspection, which turned up "conditions conducive to vermin," this isn't too surprising. A tough break for the neighborhood standby, but we're guessing they've still got enough of a loyal clientele to bounce back—once they clear out the Secrets of Nimh colony they've got going on in there.
  • Yankee Fan,
No, I don't work for a real estate but I do back up my assertions with facts not emotional rants. Document your statement ANYWHERE that 8th Avenue is the divider. I, at least, documented mine. You seem to be obsessed with this Park Slope vs. Windsor Terrace "conflict" as evidenced by previous posts. It just so happens that my affiliation with the area would be better served if your boundaries were correct, but they're not. Facts are facts. Baseless comments are just that. Your quest to keep Windsor Terrace "preserved" from the yuppies is ridiculous. The fringe areas have already morphed with Park Slope and that continues to spread, like it or not. Did you ever hear about the guy with the long beard at the beachhead waiting with a rifle 50 years after the war was over...?
  • G2BDON wrote: Document your statement ANYWHERE that 8th Avenue is the divider.

Please! You dug out an obsolete site (http://www.smalltownbrooklyn.com/) from the year 2000 to "prove" your point. Don't you get the point; things change!!! That is an out of date map! I would think that a current NYC Zoning/Planning map would trump that. You must also be worried about a war with Persia.
  • No opinion here, just adding some more input. This is a map from the "Brooklyn Pix" site that describes neighborhoods and shows borders but it clearly represents someone's opinion. That particular opinion is that Prospect Park West is the border. You can see the full map at the link and it's available for purchase as well.

  • G2BDON you've totally lost me. smalltownbrooklyn.com is an excellent site, and certainly not "obsolete." They keep up on the changing businesses with those awesome scrolling maps. I have no idea who they are or why they do what they do, but I appreciate them very much. Don't diss!

My understanding is that 15th St (both sides) is Park Slope. 16th St, and Windsor, etc all the way to Greenwood, is Windsor Terrace. 8th or even 7th Ave is the other border. The nabe borders don't change -- there's just spillover from Park Slope into Windsor Terrace, as there has been for 20 years or so.

Some other time this was being discussed here, armchair posted this map

It appears that it's just the store part of Terrace Bagels that has the Issue - their wholesale operation isn't effected as far as I can tell (the Park Slope Food Coop gets their awesome bagels.)

p.s vidro gets tonight's poetry prize
    :D

edited to add a map from an earlier thread...

If you really want to take it there and get technical/nostalgic about windsor terrace....do you remember the good ol days when windsor terrace sneakily expanded their territory into south slope by creeping down windsor place and 16th street, all the way down to 7th ave?
  • Pitu:
My apologies, no "diss" intended and kudos to vidro3 for lightening things up. Fact is; we can argue these things till the cows come home. But, respectfully, when you say "my understanding is...", that's the point. Look at turtle95's post and some of the other links to maps. Boundaries change and not always because of some nefarious real estate agent looking to score. You have people on this site that just won't (or can't) let go. Their lifelong mission is to preserve the sanctity of Windsor Terrace, i.e., Farrell's Bar, etc., etc. And in case you didn't notice, there is always the subliminal slap at Park Slope. The reality is those homes are worth well over a million; tenants pay Manhattan rents; each and every new business is Park Slope oriented. Posters such as Yankee Fan view everybody else as interlopers and can't cope with reality.

apology accepted, on behalf of our brooklyn internet colleagues. thx!

    :D

I personally don't have any investment, financial or emotional, in the nabe boundaries. I just think they are what they are, and real estate agents are the ones who call things what they ain't to capitalize. People can pay Manhattan rents in places that aren't Park Slope. The housing stock on Sherman Street is every bit as nice as a prime Slope block, but it's in Windsor Terrace, whatever that means to you.
I kinda like those short cross streets with the porches....

And then there's the happy proximity to Terrace Bagels.
Can we stay on topic about that now? I should have split the border patrol off to it's own thread yesterday...
  • FWIW, that Brooklynpix site is notoriously inaccurate with neighborhood boundaries. The boundaries are photoshopped onto the old street map, and do not represent any kind of historical reality as the underlying old map is meant to imply. I've always felt like that site is sponsored by Corcoran.
