Just for the record, that cite above is from Wikipedia, which, held within the website, is a collection of other peoples explanations of a Vietnamese Sandwich. Don't want to be accused of stealing.
    Hm, yeah funny!

See Mpmav, you're almost getting it - linking to something is fine - but if you take what they say on wikipedia and pass it off as your own prose, then you have to cite your source, get it?

    Don't worry, tomorrow's a new day.

  • wow, yeah! YIPEE!

    Okay, Hanco v Ba Xuyên . . . discuss.
(Ba Xuyên is in Sunset Park, 8th Ave and 42nd St, and is amazing. They tend to close/run out of bread by 6:30 -7pm, but if you can get there for lunch it's a beautiful bahni mi day.)

  • Anyone have an update on Hanco's?
  • Okay, I love Vietnamese food - go to Manhattan Chinatown for it all the time. What is Hanco? Never heard of it.
  • Ooh, I had forgotten about this - my recent layoff just got a lot less painful!
  • Passed by today. Still no major updates other than construction. I eagerly await because I loves me some Banh Mi!
  • I can't wait until they open! I used to live in Cobble Hill and ate there all the time. The shredded chicken sandwich with bubble tea (minus the tapioca balls) is my favorite seven dollar meal! Woo-hoo!!!!
  • Using Brook-Vine as an example, it's one thing to get the construction completed... and quite another to have all the right paperwork to open your doors... I'm guessing it'll be another month or two.
  • I love Nicky's. There's one off 1st & 1st in nyc, and another on Atlantic. I love em all!

Agreed! Nicky's on Atlantic is really great. I'm just happy to soon have an option here in the slope.

I finally made it to Nicky's on Atlantic, and found them to be distinctly ungreat compared to the Sunset Park places. The coffee was right on, but the regular #1 sandwich was not sublime.
I am a devoted fan of bahn mi. These were just okay sandwiches.

Specifically, Spicy order was not spicy, and the meats were meh. The pickled veg wasn't even as good.

    Not that I wouldn't go there anyway . . .
    :D

but Ba Xuyen and the tiny place below Canal St are waaaaaaay better.
  • I keep hearing such great things about Ba Xuyen, but I've never been. Now, I'm definitely going.

Something must have gone wrong then...maybe the regulars were sick and they had a temp making your sandwich, because if you ask for spicy they can usually burn your face off.
  • Ba Xuyen blows this shit outa the water. But sometimes you dont want to take the train to sunset park.
  • I WANT HANCO'S!!!!!! I have started walling on the other side of the street to avoid salivating when I walk in front of the sign. When, people!!!!!!!!!
  • let's all go visit scarlett, wailing on the street across from the future sandwich shop

    :D

(and put her on the bus to 8th Ave and 42nd St, Sunset Park)
  • Bah!!!!! I want to pick it up on the way home, not ride an hour to get it! Mmmmm bubble tea with vodka!!!!

I'd been imagining making an alcoholic drink with the tapioca pearls. Something white russian-y. I even went so far as to buy the pearls, but neglected to buy straws, and the straws are an integral part of the whole thing. Don't know why it didn't just occur to me to just throw in a shot of hooch and call it a day. Meet you there opening day with a flask?
  • You got it!!!!
