Ecuador banned dangerous dogs
this pisses me off -- we have a rottie and there is no way we're getting rid of her. and they didn't prohibit so called "wolf dogs". and there hasn't been a crackdown on dog fighting.
daver: they also outlawed those brazilian dogs you were telling us about.

okay, my ability to read in spanish was compromised briefly. upon further investigation, the breeding of pits, rotties, et al is banned all over ecuador. they all have to be sterilized and undergo some kind of personality exam (?????). they also have to stay on your property.
this article is a little clearer:
http://www.elcomercio.com/noticiaEC.asp?id_noticia=254984&id_seccion=8
also, certain cities and/or states within ecuador have fully banned several breeds of dogs, including rotties, pits and filas. but, thus far, we don't live in one of those areas.
I'm not sure what to think of this. I mean, on one hand, I think all dogs and cats should be fixed, especially strays. it'd prevent the mass poisoning that happens in latin america -- there are like zero street cats in ecuador. so bizarre. but on the other hand, the change in law obvisously allows cuenca to keep their laws the way they are, which means they'll be putting these dogs down left and right, instead of punishing shitty owners, dog fighters and shitty breeders.
oh well. -
Sounds like a compromise to me.
Are you in Quito? -
Why aren't you posting in Ecuador?
-
Alafair- Daver can't read Spanish. Thanks, anyway.
And yea- go find the Ecuador boards! You made friends here that way- you can probably do the same there.....(this is based on her previous post about making new friends in a new country, NOT because I'm trying to get rid of her....she's my girl!)

filmlover44: no. I'm outside of otavalo/cotacachi (about 1.5 hours north of quito)
danielle123: I post here because I have friends here and people who've worked on some of these issues in the states.
WYW: thanks girl. I don't really want to lose touch with this board because I will be coming back and frankly my internet time is a little limited -- sometimes I'm on every day, sometimes once every two weeks. but you're right, I should see if there are boards in ecuador. and if there aren't for my area (otavalo, cotacachi, quiroga), start one. but then we're back to my internet time limited problem. hilarious how I work harder here without having a job. -
This kind of stuff is going on in the US too.
