New Space on Prospect/8th Ave

Hooray! We've finally closed on our apt in South Slope, so this will only be one block away!
-
G & Y is on the corner of Windsor Place and 8th Ave, but there was a deli on the NW corner of Prospect & 8th.
It would be nice to have another food option down 8th Ave. -

ah, you're correct - G&Y is on Windsor and 8th. So, what was this place before? It looks like it was a commercial space.
It would be nice to have another food option down 8th Ave.
I'm excited for some new options -
Subject: park slope
it was a laundromat many yrs ago. -
Is Gialeti's Cafe there? Where is it? Has anyone gone? It's 1.5 blocks from me and I never walk that direction.
-
as far as i know, it's still not open yet. but there is steady progress to the space.
-
just saw it yesterday. looks about 90% complete. looks like a nice place.

Looks like they still have a little bit of work to do based on the tools out front, but there is a sign on the door showing hours, so it could be open soon. On the other hand, maybe they are just very optimistic. In any event, I'm eager to try it because it's nice to have more options down at this end of the neighborhood.

Yea, I keep diving by this place and looming at the progress, next time when the weather isn't so cold it I'm not in a hurry I'll stop
I pretty sure the answer is no but has anyone been to My Hero on 19th and 10th Ave?

is that the place that's on delivery.com?

I am super excited about this place, as it's a block away and I've been watching its growth for months. Can't wait to be one of the first customers. I will be sure to post a review

I went! It's warmly decorated inside and was surprisingly busy for their unofficial opening. I got a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese, and my boyfriend got the same bagel as an egg/black forest ham sandwich. Both were delicious. The owner gave us free smoothie samples to evaluate as well, which were very tasty. I did give feedback that my chai latte didn't taste enough like chai. Family owned and operated and they are open to suggestions. They also have free wireless!
I'm pretty excited to have a cafe, especially one this good, in the "no-man's land" of 15th St - Expressway, 8th Ave area, especially with Terrace Bagels having a situation over there on PPW. It's a good replacement for Cafe Eleven and still far enough from Red Horse on 6th. I encourage anyone in the neighb to check it out. -
Thanks for the post arieshine... I think I'll go check it out on my way out.

Very cool - can't wait to try it out. I love me some panini, so it would be cool to walk over and grab lunch when I'm working from home

hubby and i have gone in there 2 saturdays in a row. we are very pleased!
1) many of their pastries, cookies, desserts, etc. are homemade and WONDERFUL. not fancy-schmancy like Ladybird et al, but just good homey baking. had a caramel walnut wafer thingamabob last week which was gooey enough and not too sweet (anotherwords, fabulous). today we split a chocolate horn (you had to split this thing -- it was huuuuuge!) which was just enough chocolate, just enough flake. mmmmmm. okay south slope/WT peeples -- we have some tasty treats in the nabe again!
2) breakfast options are nice. last week i had omlette and toast & hubs had some crepes with a side salad. we both had coffee. very satisfying! we liked the portion size, and the coffee was well-brewed.
3) today we had panini. portions were even bigger than expected, kind of a sandwich-and-a-half. hubby was particularly pleased with the bread, which wasn't the squashed dense flatbread that a lot of panini are these days but more like thick slices of pullman bread. the fresh mozz that came on his sandwich was fresh and very creamy. he really enjoyed it. both came with side salads.
4) service with a smile. a bit chaotic, a bit frenetic, but these folks have only just begun so it'll take time to find a real rhythm. but they are genuinely nice people, though, and that always makes a huge difference.
5) the space is homey and friendly. lots of warm colors and textures. they have done their best to get around the narrow space, but it could be problematic when it becomes crowded (though truthfully there's not much you can do about that).
one minor criticism: they will have to figure out a better way to present their rotating menu system. currently it changes 2X daily, and is posted on random spots of the display cases. this is a little odd, but maybe they're trying to figure out which dishes work before printing a more permanent menu.
stop by when you get the chance, even if it's only to pick up some madelines or cupcakes or a cup of joe.
welcome to the neighborhood!!! -
Thanks for the great review. Looking forward to trying this place.

thanks for the write up, shishkab...you're making me hungry! I'll definitely check it out soon

Anybody notice that weird chemical smell? Here is a comment for the owners, La colombe sucks, there are a million different coffees out there. It sucks at Parco it sucks at Cafe Regular. The service is a little wacky, 6 people behind the counter but it takes ten minutes to take my order. Hopefully that will smooth out.
