Jewish Hospital Buildings — Brooklynian

Jewish Hospital Buildings

So, I went to check out apartments at the Jewish Hospital Building today.

I'm looking for a 2-bedroom in the area, and the range there seemed to be in the $1600-1800 range. Questions:

1. Do people have good/bad experiences living there?
2. Is this rate for a 2-bedroom about par for the area?

Thanks...

  • I lived there for 2 years, good buildings. If they allowed for pets I would still live there.

Try and get a place on Prospect... 545 is the best building IMO, with the best apts being on the 10th-11th floors.
  • Cool- What did you pay (if you don't mind) when you were there? $1600-$1800 seems high to me. Did the J. Hospital open with apts starting at closer to $1100 or was that only one-bedrooms?
  • Sterling--The price in general seems real high for C. Heights and P.Lefferts Garden.(not that I don't see similarly priced apts in real estate listings.) Not that long ago that price was jaw-dropping for Prospect Heights, but I think you might know that. Good luck with your move. I think you can do much better than that price--just might take you a bit to find your deal.
  • I lived with a roommate and we were paying $1000 each for a decent sized 2 bedroom (maybe 800-900 sq ft).

When I was looking for a place with my gf in December we could not find a decent 1BR for anything less than 1500 in Prospect Heights. It looks like there is stuff in the area for about 1300 now and I'm sure it will go down as the warm month moving wave gains steam w/the bad economy.
  • Cool- Thanks for sharing that info. I didn't know the J Hospital rentals were going for that price. Hope you and the gf are happy in the new place and that you two found something decent you could afford and I really hope you're right about the rental market prices softening a bit.
  • We found one place in 475 St Marks for 1700 w/a free parking spot but they no longer allow pets. Something to consider.
  • Sterling- you're moving out of your building with the famous STOOP?!?! But there's history, man! Dude, I know sometimes we need to move on and all.....but its the STOOP! It made you famous! It made you who you ARE!
  • I thought you owned your apartment?
  • Hey, I was just about to come here to post about these buildings.

I just started a Facebook group for people who live there. I've randomly met a few people that live there, and I'm sure there's a chance a bunch of us would get along.

Join the group if you live in one of the buildings!

  • fyi, we live there and have pets (cats). lots of dogs in the 545 building, too. when we came in (2005), the lease said no pets, but the rental agent okayed the cats anyway. plus there's the whole grandfathering of pets thing in nyc rentals so you could have a pet without permission and be allowed to keep it if no one complains in the first 3 months.
  • Subject: Just moving in!!!

:D Hey everyone, just wanted to give a heads up that my roommates and I have just signed a lease at 545. Very excited to share the building. :)
