Who Knew?!? San Remo Pizzeria, a Restaurant Review

In Italy, practically every pizzeria has a sit down restaurant in the back room. They all serve pasta and they almost all are great places for dinner. The food is carefully cooked, the portions large and the prices much lower than the Restorante’s or the Trattoria’s.
San Remo has been a fixture on Cortelyou road for decades and they always made good pizza, but no one would take a date or a spouse there. It was certainly not a place for making a good first impression or quiet conversation with the kids screaming for their slices and sodas.
But things have changed!!!
Cortelyou is now a hot spot with several good restaurants and this marvelous evolution has now spread to San Remo. San Remo has opened up its mysterious back room and is serving beer and wine. While the restaurant room is not elegant, it is clean and homey.
The first three rules about restaurants are The FOOD, The VALUE and The PORTIONS and San Remo wins on all three.
Real standouts are Caveletti with broccoli rabe, white beans and garlic and the Lassagna, real plate fillers and done with care. The service is friendly and prompt. There are many wines under $30 and a dinner for two, appetizer, pasta, dessert and tip is easily under $40.

Who cares about "shilling"- the fact is, San Remo is the best restaurant on Cortelyou Road (in my humble opinion), so thank you D.E. for pointing this out and making a post about it. For those who do not know, the San Remo pizza parlor has been in business in this location for --? as long as i've been alive, so at least 27 years. I went to school with the original owner's twin sons, who now run the place. I was delighted when they opened the restaurant in the back a few months ago. It is beautiful back there- no linen table cloths, but very comfortable and clean. The service is great, the food is awesome and affordable. I highly recommend it!

You know, I've must've walked by this place a million times, but havent stopped in, mainly because I have a rather kickin pizza joint a handful of blocks away.
Still, wine brings another element. Maybe I'll check out the joint this weekend. -
Do you think they'd deliver to E14th and N? Is there a website with a menu?

Sorry for the late response, but I live about 4 blocks form DiFara. The long lines have caused me to visit far less frequently than I otherwise would, but considering I'm trying to bring sexy back for spring, that may be a good thing. -
I discovered Sam Remo recently when DiFara wasn't open due to the car accident. I love their food. The eggplant in the eggplant parm. is baked not fried, there's enough real garlic in their garlic & oil pasta to keep the vampires away. The pasta is always perfect. They're so busy that when I call for delivery, I'm put on hold at least twice before my order is completed. They've got sometimes five people manning the front - filling orders on the phone and in person. Delivery can take up to 25 minutes because everything is freshly made and with the size, two people can eat off the same order...that is if you're bringing sexy back for the Spring.
