Filming in McGolrick Park — Brooklynian

Filming in McGolrick Park

They were gettin' ready this morning. Changed the street signs so Driggs said MacDonald or somethin. Now the park is all lit up and there seems to be a smoke machine of sorts. Anybody have any idea?

  • I believe it was for Fringe, it was pretty crazy with all those lights! There have been tons of filmings in McGolrick recently. It's cool, but it annoys me given the already inefficient parking practices on my block. Take up more spaces why don't they?
  • Hah seriously, my roommate always has fun words to say when she sees the "no parking here this day" signs. Pretty cool though, I love seein stuff i live in/near on TV and movies. They filmed part of a Flight of the Conchords video in McGolrick too.
  • I wandered across a Fringe shoot last weekend at about 3 am, at the intersection of Calyer and Banker. From a distance it actually looked a little scary, I was a couple of blocks away and saw flashing lights and smoke drifting across the intersection. I headed that was to check it out, and the smoke as I got closer looked more like fog, drifting eerily low. The lights were fake generic "State Police" cars, and the scene involved what the production assistant charged with monitoring foot traffic called "a dangerous stunt."

That was kind of disappointing. Just a van peeling out from the curb and making a left a Calyer.

Mostly what I've seen shooting lately in that part of the neighborhood (my part) is Life on Mars. They take over Murphy's (er... Capri Social Club) to shoot interiors sometimes (I saw Keitel in there once) and also park a bunch of '60s and '70s cars on the street for exteriors.
