Gorilla Coffee on 7th
Based on the flurry of messages in another post, it seems there's quite a demand for a Gorilla Coffee expansion.
I took the liberty of emailing Gorilla and pleading for a new store on 7th. Here's their very prompt response:

i don't know... it seems to me so much better that they ARE on fifth although they would alter the flavor, hopefully, of what IS on seventh. -

Oh heck, I totally understand! I live in PH (Sterling and Vanderbilt) and only make it to Naidre's now during my weekend morning walks. I just felt the need to throw Naidre's my formerly-living-a-black-away love.

I have been drinking coffee every day of my life for the past 25 years. I am here to tell you, don't get too excited about Gorilla. It's simply not that great - like Starbucks they overroast their coffee and it tastes very bitter. And it's the same price as Starbucks. Plus side? They have organic/free trade coffee.
Want *great* coffee? Go to the Pacific Northwest. -

True, that. One of my best friends lives in Seattle, and the coffee there is pretty darned awesome. Cheaper, too. However; even with a friend living in Seattle, it's difficult to get there on a daily basis to drink my cuppa joe. -

Like wise, I failed to see what's the big deal about Gorila. I went there expected to be blown away by the coffee, but came away very disappointed. The coffee was below average.

Heck, I find it odd that they close at 9PM! For some reason, they give off the vibe that they'd stay open later than that - the music and free wifi and general feel of the place. I was amazed when I was scooted out a few months back at 8:45PM. -

I love Gorilla and walk from 7th Avenue in the Center Slope just to get it sometimes. And where's the coffee shop for people who don't want to be bumped into by pushy moms with strollers? Gorilla has less of that so I'd welcome another branch.

The reason Gorilla coffee on 5th avenue doesn't have those annoying parents with little punks in strollers is, they don't fit in the store. (Well, not literally, but it is a tight squeeze and yes, there is always some idiot parent who brings a stroller in and blocks the traffic in and out.)
But if Gorilla got a store on 7th avenue and it was wider, you *know* the parents are going in their with strollers. I yearn for the days when Park Slope was "dyke slope."
But as usual, the gays made the neighborhood great and then hetero bimbos come along and want it to look like a mall ("oh god i hope they put in a baby Gap where Regina's Bakery used to be!") -

Hmm - everyone looooves Seattle coffee but hates skanky, dirty-looking and snobby baristas? Honey, you ever been to Seattle, cause that's what every barista looks like.
I lived in Seattle for 6 1/2 yrs and even pulled espresso for a couple of years (although I never really had the gift for making a decent latte). As a seasoned Seattle coffee snob, I can say with confidence that Gorilla has the best coffee in New York City, hands down. It's at least as good as Vivace in Seattle. -

Yes, I've been to Seattle and enjoyed it there. I don't remember the baristas looking particularly unkempt. Maybe I didn't notice because they had a better attitude than the Gorillas. -

Screw all these posters who complain about the people who work at Gorilla Coffee looking "unkempt". In my experience they're all very nice to the customers. Even if they did look unkempt, the coffee is better than any other shop's in the Slope, without question. The poster who said that their coffee is just as expensive as Starbucks is wrong. A tall/small at Starbucks cost $1.79 (including tax). A small coffee at Gorilla is $1.50, and the coffee is better. -

it actually IS the best coffee locally. Plus they're being friendlier to me now. It might be because I've been looking rather dishevelled (sp) myself lately.
