black rottweiler walking alone on street at president/ fifth

hi - about half an hour ago(1:30 p.m.), i saw a black dog, a rottweiler, roaming the streets first at sixth and carroll then on to president and fifth. i could not get close enough to see if he had tags ... someone called 311 and they were supposedly on the way. i know very little about dogs and the dog seemed semi-friendly but it was hard to tell. if you're near there and can take a peak or might know someone who's dog is 'missing' ... well that's why i'm posting. i tried to find him again (i had heavy packages on me and couldn't walk very fast) but could not.

After what sounds like the same dog crossed my path, crossing Carlton at Prospect, i followed it a few blocks until the 77th took over-- they woke up once it plopped down in front of the school at Park Place and Underhill! When I left, they were waiting for Animal Control. So that's probably where it is now.
  • Subject: that's incredible.

    hi. thx for writing!

how in the world did the dog get that far crossing streets and all... avoiding cars and with no one keeping tabs on him or her? !?

was he or she largish, all black, and had no tail?
seemed like he or she had a friendly disposition ... kind of bouncing along, but hard to tell.

I don't know how the dog would fare at animal control ... never a great option, so many animals get put to sleep.

i hope the owner/guardian didn't abandon the dog and he or she has a home soon (either an old one or a new one).

    were police guarding the dog?

thanks for filling in the details. that is incredible if it's the same dog.

i'm afraid to check in with ac&c. if you know anyone who is thinking of getting a dog companion, as long as the dog is friendly, i think he or she would be a really nice dog friend to have.

    cat.

Can you describe the dog's accent?

[I'm sorry James, had to do it. Next one at Freddy's is on me.]

i'm still perplexed how a dog like that could cross flatbush!

anyway i contacted animal care & control and they said the only rottweiler that came in yesterday in brooklyn was from canarsie. !

I posted a new thread with updated information.
The police did not stay watching the dog and the dog ran away!
