Athletic Center or gym at the armory?

Potter,
It is simply not as bad as you say. Of course a shelter for women in crisis, who have been abused, addicted, etc. will have issues. But for the most part, the issues do not leak into the Slope. Sure, sometimes, they do, but the big picture is that these women have a safe place to live and enter into recovery.
I have seen Park Slope children chase cats, make fun of developmentally delayed people, steal, etc. Should we kick out all the white kids too? (can’t wait to read the snark on that one!). -
applepants, go look for the junkies.
you opinion is not shared by the vast majority of us who live here. -
Potter,
Go look for the good of offering help to women in crisis.

This is my last post on this topic. I will not respond further. -
Wow,
That tangent went far...
The track in gonna open soon, not this Winter, maybe the Spring or Summer. It is a BEAUTIFUL facility. The people that come to use it will (mostly) not be junkies. Thou, I know some people who are addicted to running.
I am sorry it is so close to where some of you live but it is already there.
If anyone was to be among the first to use it or wants to run some where else check out www.pptc.org. We will be having our regular Saturday morning group run at 8am tomorrow. We meet behind the farmers market at Grand Army Plaza
Sorry for the self promotion. -
brooklynpotter wrote: see above: parking, tons more kids around (trust me, the movie theater brings plenty). it will turn a semi-quiet nabe into a far louder and more crowded one.
In other words, only the adjacent street will get busy? Works for me, I am a few blocks over. Hopefully it opens soon.
plus, the fact that 15th between 8/ppw is a bus route for 2 buses, and a thoroughfare for cops and ambulances, the street is already crowded enough--not to mention adding more cars to the dangerous turn to 15th from the circle, where there is no light.
it's a recipe for ugliness on so many levels -

Since when do kids have enough money to afford or interest to go to Park Slope gyms?
all this will do is make parking worse and bring more kids here at night
Are people going to drive here from two miles away to run five miles in a gym? -

Answer to first question:
It is not a gym, it is a state of the art, quarter mile track, with viewing stands, showers and locker rooms. The kids that come are gonna come in school buses during the day and after school. There might be track meets on weekends.
Second questin:
Yes, it is not about just running. It is about training on a track. There will be some cars.

if the rest of park slope can put up with a new condo and a new bar on every block and the traffic issues noise and garbage issues that have resulted, surely 14th/15th st can deal with it as well.

Applepants, we know you're white you don't have to point that out. Only a white liberal announces they're white while they are putting down the white race.
Are white people they the only ones smoking dope in the neighborhood and is it only white kids stealing?
What does race have to do with this anyway. I know black middle class families that don't want the women's shelter in the neighborhood. Imagine that.
And please, female drug addicts are not women in crisis. -
Here is an update on the Armory opening...

I know this post is 2 years old. That is the point.
I have been using the track at the Armory (with my kids) for a year now.
I was just wondering if we have made the block better or worse? Any impact ant all?
Howdy, Stranger!
