Clothing Donation in the Slope (Preferably South)

Anyone know where I can donate a big bag of clothes? The closer to 9th St and 7th Ave the better as it's a pretty big bag =)
I'd prefer a charity over one of the resellers but it's not a huge deal either way

Thanks!

  • Every Saturday morning they collect clothes behind the farmers market at Grand Army Plaza
  • Not in the Slope but they pick up and only need one day's notice. United Veterans Beacon House (www.uvbh.com) provides housing and other services to homeless veterans. Phone #'s 718-628-6469; 718-386-5782.

That's great, but sad that some veterans must wear my old rags.

I think St Mary's Episcopal Church Clothing Pick-Up (Phone: 631-234-9776) sends cars to pick up clothes from the homes of people in Brooklyn and Queens.
  • I had a long talk with the manager of a Salvation Army once. They are happy to accept ANYTHING. The nastiest stuff gets sold to people who make fancy paper, the wearable stuff gets given to people who don't have any clothes and the best stuff gets sold in their stores.
  • Thanks everyone! I forgot about the one at GAP. I'll check out the others as well.
    I appreciate the info =)
  • We took 3 huge bags to monk at 5th ave & 16th street. They said anything they didn't take would be donated to the Salvation Army.
  • i think there's a drop box in the lowe's parking lot. that's more in gowanus, but it's on 14th street.

speaking of, what about stuff? supposing you had a bunch of non-clothes-type stuff and it wasn't yet stoop sale season, what would you do? does housing works pick up?
  • Not in the South Slope but we recently donated 5 huge bags of clothes to CHIPS on 4th Avenue.
  • Thanks to all! I went to Grand Army Plaza today and donated my clothes.
