9th Street CVS pharmacy--what happened?

I never go in to CVS even though I live a block away. I would rather use Rite Aid on 5th ave. I use Slope Drugs for scripts exclusively (disadvantage they close 7pm and sundays are closed). Other things sold in drug stores are available at Save on 5th. In a pinch ,late at night I go to Neergards but their pharmacists are like robots.

I recommend Brian at Park Slope Pharmacy on 8th Avenue and 8th Street.

Ansonia for prescriptions, CVS for shampoo etc. It's right near the Y so very convenient. I have no problem with CVS and in fact they do a lot of good charity wise.

I never liked Neergard. A while ago, I had a nasty case of strep throat, so off to the ER I went. I was sick as hell. Of course, it was 2 in the morning, everything but Neergard was closed.
So I went in, went to the back handed them my prescription. No insurance? Ok. I sat down near the pharmacy counter, and I may as well have been trying to rob the place, the way they watched me. I'm sitting on a chair with a 102 degree fever. With what energy am I going to take something?
I never went back after that. I was so uncomfortable.
At Rite Aide, the older gentleman behind the counter has an attitude like you wouldn't believe. I ran in 20 minutes before closing to get a prescription filled that I needed-it was the earliest I could get there from work-and he made sure I knew it was almost closing, and why did I want to make more work for them?
Just my 2 cents on the subject. I guess I'm still looking for a pharmacy without attitude. Next time I'm in need, I'll be sure to check out Ansonia. -
duane reade at 7th and flatbush is fine.

Try the pharmacy on 8th and I think 7th (or 6th) it is family run for many many years and the pharmacist is a wealth of information. They do not have a large supply of beauty products though...

I would not expect a "good" experience at a place like Rite Aid or CVS. They are managed from far far away and their staff has no reason to do more than they have too. (That does not mean that some nice people might work there).
Eckard became Rite Aid, Genaveese is gone.
In a few years they will all probably merge into a CVS / RiteAid / Walgreens / Duane Reade store that looks the same is Park Slope as it does in Boyton Beach.
I try to shop local merchants as long as I can. -
Whatever you do, just stay away from the King's on Flatbush. They're fine for buying your shampoo or whatever, but I would never bring my prescriptions there again. I don't know if there was something more behind it than pure ineptitude, but I could get them to fill my 'script w/o screwing it up only twice, out of the six refills I had there. The only reason I knew that it was screwed up was the packaging wasn't the same. If the script had been medication that I couldn't recognize by sight, then that might have become dangerous.
I read an article recently that said that Rite Aid is *this* close to bankruptcy. That might explain why the store is more disheveled looking than normal. That said, I've always found Rite Aid, Eckerts, Brooks, and Walgreens to have just about the same level of attention paid to the store appearance. CVS's service might be crap, too, but at least their stores look a lot better.
I think that it's interesting how many pharmacies there are in Park Slope. Even more interesting is that everyone seems to have their own favorite mom-and-pop. -
I heard Rite Aid was also going into bankruptcy so all the more reason to stay away. Plus the fact the store is dirty, never fully stocked and what is stocked is usually opened by the John Jay kids. I saw two girls testing the nail polish.

girls always test the nail polish

They are horrible. I can't stand them. They lose things and are very incompetent. They can't handle being open 24 hours.

My two cents re CVS on 9th: Totally agree with the couple of folks upthread voicing their displeasure over the non-pharmacy staff (I've never had to fill a prescription - knock on wood - so I dunno about that). But the people working behind the main counter up front are terrible. There'll be a line of five or six people waiting to be checked out, and one girl will be helping customers, and then another one or two just sitting there talking. Inevitably the manager will have to call out the loafers to get them to open their register, and they'll give him attitude in return before getting up to do their job.
Unless it's absolutely necessary, I've stopped going there, I'll head to the magical Sav-on-5th instead. The people there are ridiculously nice, they've got just about any kind of random household thing you could ever randomly need, and the prices are great. It's basically like a mini-Target, but with a nice, helpful staff.
