Annoying Flute Player on Seventh Avenue near Garfield

This guy is driving me nuts. He's been going frantically with these tuneless blowings for the past hour non-stop, and it's filling up my entire house. Who gives this guy money?

I'm visualizing that Greek character with the goat legs who would dance and play his flute to celebrate spring and fertility. Ridiculous. This isn't Manhattan.

  • That's funny. I was visualizing The Pied Piper leading all the privileged youngsters into the East Riverimage
  • It may be James Galway, it's been rumored he'll be appearing at the Carriage House.
  • wacth this episode of South Park and it will answer all your questions.

  • When I lived on 7th near Carroll, I was often serenaded by street musicians. I had no problem with most of them (including the accordion player). I would hear their music, but only softly. However, when a trio of pan-pipers turned up with amps, it was annoying; hence, I called the police and was pleasantly surprised to find that these guys were chased off. Other than this incident, the most regularly disturbing noise on 7th came from drunken locals spilling out of Snooky's at 1 am on Friday and Saturday nights either to yell at stumbling, Palinesque girlfriends/spouses or to fight each other in hilariously inept man-dances that were likely fueled by copious quantities of Wild Turkey.
  • If it's the guy playing Andean-style flute, I kinda like him. It's a nice part of the sound tapestry coming off of 7th. Even that Abba tune isn't so bad. And what about the opera-singing guy - he also adds to the quaintness of the street chorus.

The trash-collecting trucks, now those really drive me nuts.

The "opera-singing guy" is a moving performance (literally). All of the street musicians add to the life of the 21st century Slope, the trash trucks less so.
  • I don't understand the problem, what's wrong with one more flute player in Park Slope
  • Bloomberg went after ice cream trucks for their noise so this falls into that category imo. I call 311 whenever I hear one of these guys/bands. They are as annoying as car alarms.
  • Anyone remember Leroy Nelson? He was a fixture on 7th Avenue in the 80's, always playing his flute in front of Manufacturers Hanover Trust bank on Carroll Street. He was such a pleasure to hear.

And this is why he believes he should be mayor-for-life. He really showed those ice cream trucks and other miscellaneous vendors who's boss!
  • By the way, the idiot with the pan flute is out again today, even earlier than yesterday.

And metalnyc, he's not one of those South American ones--they actually play some sort of discernible tune, as opposed to this hippie/yuppie guy's spastic, warbled nonsense.

The opera singer guy at least stays in motion, he only sings while he walks. The funny thing is, if you've ever spoken to him, he speaks exactly the same way that he sings.

I agree about the trash trucks; they go all night, but that's what happens when you've got tens of thousands of pounds of rotten garbage flowing out of "Sette Vette" and "Yamamoto's Chinese-Made Sushi" every night thanks to our restaurant-obsessed neighbors.
  • The only flute worth a damn is the chick from Mercury Rev on those first two records. Yourself is Steam - great rock and roll flute.
  • Quick, everyone go to Back to the Land and give this guy money!

I have a feeling that if he finds that spot to be profitable, he'll be there often.
  • the objective of this post is to seek and destroy a flute player
