156 FRANKLIN STREET| PCT UNITS REPORTING 1 FEMALE WAS SHOT AND TRANSPORTED TO METROPOLITAN HOSPITAL IN UNKNOWN CONDITION.| -
Thanks. I found out that it was at The Production Lounge and read about it from someone that lives across the street on a different blog. With all of the bars popping up, it is no surprise. Scary to wake up to gunshots in a relatively safe neighborhood.

Not sure this is the same blog mention, but after reading that I did a Google blog search and found this:

same one...

A few more details: it started as a scuffle inside the bar between two guys basically escalating from a push. They were taken outside; apparently there's a back way that exits around the corner on Kent and that's where the shooter was ejected. He walked up Kent and opened fire. Reportedly the woman who was hit was the girlfriend of the other guy.
The inside portion is on video which the cops have seen, so maybe that will lead to something. -

It's not so much the bars I think as it is the kind of clientele particular bars try to attract. Production bar is not exactly hoping to rope in your regular everyday people who just wanna get some drinks with their friends and listen to decent music. I didnt give that place too much time when it first opened, I'm honestly surprised it's lasted as long as it has. -
true- not fair of me to generalize.

Is cool I didn't think ya were. I figured you were referring to the new kinda out of place-ish bars that don't do much to contribute to the neighborhood's appeal. This is one such place. Get it outta here. -
Subject: Community meeting
Couldn't go to the community meeting last night. Does anyone know what happened there?
I went to the meeting after the first Club Exit shooting, and the owner promised they wouldn't have any more rap nights there, and it's been mainly quiet (except for that other shooting...). -
The Brooklyn Paper has coverage today:
http://brooklynpaper.com/stories/32/7/32_7_bm_gp_shooting.html
And newyorkshitty.com has posted video of the relevant part of the community meeting on YouTube. The video is in five parts; you can find them at the site but I think it's easier directly on YouTube. Below is the link to Part One, and if you click "More from newyorkshitty" on the right you'll find the others:

Something kind of amusing there tonight. I went to Lost and Found or Alligator Greenpoint if you want to call it that to catch a show (which was great, by the way). There was some live music event happening at Production Lounge, though with a pretty small crowd (and yeah, it'd be what people would say was not a local crowd) and with the volume pretty low.
But the noticeable thing was that on Franklin at Kent, basically in what would be the first parking slot on Franklin Street coming south from that intersection, there was an NYPD "Emergency Service" portable gas generator-powered spotlight trailer, with four lights trained on the door of the Production Lounge.
I didn't actually see any cops around, but I guess the light unit itself was sending a message: "you are under the spotlight."
Does it accomplish anything? I don't know. The only thing I could think of was that maybe surveillance video from the street in front didn't show anything useful because it was too dark, so they're trying to illuminate it more. Or maybe just having something out there that says "NYPD" on it is supposed to intimidate people into not breaking the law.
It's Thursday night. It'll be interesting to see what the 94 comes up with for the weekend. -
I've seen something similar to that, and yea I think for the most part it's supposed to be NYPD presence = intimidation. Not sure how well it works.
Was that the Thousandaires/State Lottery show? I wanted to go but had band practice of my own. Figured it'd be done by the time I got out. -

Yep that was it. Fun show, and I was happy to have live music back at the place -- while I do have quibbles with their sound system and wish they'd spent some money on that while renovating. But it was a good crowd. I actually was trying to decide between three different shows last night but given how cold and windy it was decided on the one closest to home and didn't regret that in the end.
BTW the show didn't start until after 10 and ended sometime after 1 am. Don't remember exactly, but probably around 130. -
damnit! all the flyers i saw said 8, which was when practice started for me. ive been diggin state lottery a lot lately and thousandaires is a perfect mix of all their other respective bands. i hope they do more than just their demo they have right now.

The lights are a crime deterrent, people are less apt to commit a crime in the spotlight. It is almost as if the light sobers people up; makes one feel less invincible.
-
Yeah, probably. Still you have to wonder if they'd have made any difference in the case of that shooting, assuming it happened the way it supposedly did. Certainly, though, it sends a message to anyone going to the place now... and can't be very good for business.
