Utopia reborn...
... as a sports bar. Has anybody seen that yet? I saw the new (hand-painted) signs up yesterday AM.
Going from memory, it says "P.K.'s Sports Bar/Restaurant, Ltd."
They painted these really odd slogans underneath the business name... "Share the Love" or something similar that you'd never associate with a sports bar.

damn, you beat me to this; i noticed this on my way home last night. it looks odd to me as well. i'm bummed that new places keep opening that don't seem to be any better or more interesting than the old places ...

someone told me it's members-only, too. which makes me think things aren't so kosher there.

I think that just means they don't have a liquor license. I have a feeling this is going to be one of the least exclusive clubs in the neighborhood. -

ahh. yes, I'm a member of several of these in north carolina and dry counties in texas. dollar memberships rule. -

On the contrary... A new sports bar is not very interesting, but I'm at least intrigued by a sports bar with a "share the love" slogan (or whatever it says). -
Was rockin' tonight.

Subject: A sports bar is a good thing!

I'm not sure how a sports bar is no different than the other stuff in the neighborhood. AFAIK, there are no bars with TVs to watch a game. Sure, Sepia rolls one out once in a while, but that is the exception, not the rule.
Of course, regardless of my post subject, more than one sports bar can make a commercial strip really loud and fratty. -

yes...yes it was... :x

really? I walked by around 12:45 a.m. (on my way to indigo) and thought it looked dark and boring. no noise no nothing. hrm.

I'm not a huge fan of the big loud fratty sports bar -- unless they have really, really good bar food, see O'Keefe's over by the courthouse -- but this week, my opinion must change.
Yes, it's the first and second round of the NCAA Men's IA Basketball Tournament. This event brings out the latent frat-boy sports-bar section of my personality (I was never even a frat boy, except honorarily, which is a complicated story involving underage drinking, sorority girls, and an antique reclining barbershop chair).
So, for the next few weeks - yay sports bar! Maybe I'll stop in on my way back from Hedda Gabbler at BAM tomorrow night, for a little cultural dissonance. -
you have hedda gabler tickets! i'm so jealous...

PK's place is shady. I walk past every night as I walk my dog. Even tho their " grand opening" was for the super bowl I've seen the open sign on only once. they keep the curtains and both doors closed tight. The few times I've seen somone going in or out I've tried to get a look inside and have met with some cold looks. There is sometimes music playing, although not very loud. usually it looks quiet and deserted, even opn the weekend. they might be in a slow rennovation process but I think what ever is going on in there is wicked shady as they don't want anyone to see what it is. what kind of new business never opens their door to the public nor has their open sign on?

Hedda was great. Didn't go to "PK's" after all, punted for a nice dinner at Velis on Fulton instead.
But I'll make it in there and will report back... -
As a place that I walk past almost every night, I still have yet to see PK's place open to the public. Am I the only one who finds this weird? they keep the curtains shut so tight but some people DO go there. There is a sign on the door that's been there for weeks saying Private Function. weirdos... I guess it's a really private club.
