Lost Chukar?
So we have a chukar in our backyard. Seems to be a small partridge-like bird that is decidedly not native to this area. Maybe someone was keeping it as a pet? We'd like to get it somewhere safe (i.e. out of our backyard that is occasionally inhabited by our very curious dog) or reunite it with its owner if it has one. Any thoughts/info would be greatly appreciated.

Had to google that. For those of you too lazy, chukar. Beautiful bird:
Damn, the bococa board is hopping! Help Turner find chukar's home. Or adopt him/her! -
Have no idea how you pronounce chukar, but this post immediately reminded me of my brother who is known around his office for pulling pranks on his coworkers with fake names that they announce unknowingly over a loudspeaker before realizing what they are actually saying.
(Lost chukar= Lost ya car? or at least that's how I read it.) -
Hadn't thought to post a pic; thanks Voodoo. Also hadn't thought to explain the subject line further. It is indeed a live bird, chilling in the yard.

Turner--Did I at least get the pronounciation right though?
Don't know about who might rescue pet birds, but someone's gotta do it. -

No prob, Turner! Keep us posted, please. I hope little chukar is reunited with his family. -
Turner-why don't you try the animal rescue guy listed almost right below this thread? Sean Casey? Perhaps if he can't help you, he may have suggestions for you.

We are indeed in contact with the Audubon Society and hopefully will help us find a suitable new location for the bird. In the meantime, this is the resident chukar:

MOD NOTE: fixed your image. for next time, right-click on the image itself in flickr and choose "copy image location".

So cute! Keep that curious doggie away. How were you able to identify it as a chukar?

Glad to hear Audubon may be able to help you out. Good to know that they can give advice for pet birds too and as Voodoo is implying, congrats on your bird identification skills. I hope this story has a happy ending.
Howdy, Stranger!
