Seafood arouond WT? — Brooklynian

Seafood arouond WT?

Where does everyone shop for seafood around WT? Key Food is not an option and United is closed on Sundays, which is when I like to do my shopping.

I know there are two places in PS on 7th ave and 3rd st, and they both seem equal to me. I was hoping there would be somewhere closer.

  • The fish at Union Market on 7th Ave is very good quality and they usually have a nice and varied selection
  • Fish Tales on Court St or Fairway but you have to be careful at Fairway
  • retag, i don't think there's anything near WT to suit your needs, unfortunately.
  • There are unfortunately no good fish places in WT :( , your best bet is Fairway.
  • I will re-iterate that Union Market has quality fresh fish. I know some despise the place for its presumed high end snobbery Manhattan-esque over-pricedness but if you want some quality items including fresh fish this place is a good option.
  • Union Market is more convenient than Fairways, but the selection can't even compare, and, of course, the prices are much higher.
  • Thanks for the answers everyone.

Union Market is just too pricey for my taste. My opinion is that if you shop there, that is telling the owners that it is ok to charge such prices. Besides, didn't they get busted for shopping at Rossmans?

OK, so if I can't walk to get fresh seafood, what is the best place in driving distance that is not Fairway? I love Fairway, it's just too crowded for my tastes.
  • You may think Union Market is over priced but I live right near Key Food and will go in there for random things sometimes and their prices are inflated on most items. I don't shop very often at Union Market and usually for very specific items - like fresh fish - and it is not cheap but I would rather pay their prices than Key Food. I do most of my grocery shopping at Fairway and if you can make it there on a weekday (almost any time day or night) it is not crowded at all and definitely very well priced with quality items, outstanding selection and of course great service.
  • blue moon tent at GAP farmers' market is only saturdays and only march-october, but easily the best fish around. get there early or take what's left, but what's left is not bad at all.

i hear nothing but raves for fish tales (court st), including from the sushi chef i know.
