Need a new laptop

Ana,
Although that's a low price you'll definitely want to consider the size of the hard drive. Do you have a lot of music, videos, etc? If so, go with the larger drive in the laptop WhyFi listed. Even if you don't need the hard drive space, you'll want to upgrade the RAM when you receive it (I'm not familiar with Lenovo, so I'm unsure as to how easy it is to upgrade the RAM yourself). -

Hey, I love Macs, but if someone is on a really tight budget, Apple doesn't even have anything in that price range at all except the Mac Mini. And if you got the Mac Mini you'd still need a monitor and keyboard, and you'd have something that's less powerful than that Toshiba laptop yet not portable. There's no question that PCs own the low end of the computer market. I'd still recommend a Mac to anyone who can afford one, but not everyone can. Jaguars are better than Hyundais, but you can't tell someone who's in the market for a Hyundai that they should really get a Jag. -

I just got an HP DV7, with a 320 gig HD and 4 gigs of RAM, Intel CPU, and loaded with features for about $900. Of course not many people need or want a 17-inch laptop (I do a lot of database and spreadsheet work, so it's exactly what I was looking for) so the DV5 (15-inch) or DV4 (14-inch) models are probably more popular. And of course they are significantly cheaper. And lighter; this thing is about 7 pounds but hey, I'm in shape. I have no problem carrying something that "heavy."
Runs fast, battery life is good, runs cool (a problem on some Dells in my experience), looks cool (face it, that's important for some people)... highly recommended. In my company we almost always buy Dells, but basically I wanted something better (befitting my position as the guy who does the most important computer work!)... anyway, highly recommended.
