Parisian-style sandwiches

Something I enjoyed about Paris were the fresh, delicious sandwiches you could find nearly anywhere on the street, in places that were like both patisseries and brasseries. They don’t seem unusual, but they are fresh and served on a narrow, crispy baguette, with just enough meat/veggies to satisfy, and it’s something I crave from time to time.

I've hunted for such a thing in Park Slope and the surrounding areas, but to no avail. Colson's Patisserie on 9th St and 6th Ave is good, but it's not quite the thing I'm thinking of. The strange thing is that places like Au Bon Pain and those massive corporate deli lunch places in midtown seem to have just the thing, but just not fresh or great quality.

Where can I get such a Parisian-style sandwich Brooklyn? (Extra points if it's within two mils of Park Slope.)

    Subject: Maybe in Bay Ridge

    There used to be a French pastry store on the corner of 5th Avenue and 76th street in Bay Ridge (Jean Danet) which might have something comparable. Its been a while since I had been there but it was the only one that came to mind.

    Not in park slope but Almondine in Dumbo has really good sandwiches using excellent french bread. They also have really good quiche. It's only a short train ride on the F. Otherwise Grab on 7th Ave between 14th and 15th has really good sandwiches using the french baguette, cheeses, cured meats and other goodies that they carry within the store.

    I hadn't heard of either, so will have to check them out. I must have been too hungry walking around to notice Grab, which I surely must have passed at some point. Is it new?

    Hmm not really. Grab used to be Blue Apron maybe 2 years ago. Then the current owner bought it from Blue Apron. It's a small place though, so you might have just missed it. It's got an orange awning.

    If you are facing Slope Cellars, Grab is immediately to the left. Love that place!

    I guess I'm the exception that proves the rule then because I am an anti-hippie capitalist in roomy blue jeans and a t-shirt with no clever slogan, who spends less than half an hour getting ready for the day. That’s the first time I've ever been accused of hipsterdom and stings.

    Subject: Brooklyn Bread

    I haven't been to Paris so I can't comment on its authenticity....but I like the sandwiches at Brooklyn Bread @ 5th Ave & 6th St. I recommend the tuna bella on a whole wheat roll.

    Brooklyn Bread, sister place to Bay Ridge and SI Paneantico, makes fantastic Italian sandwiches. They have nothing in-common with their French counterpart, but worth trying out. And their portions are HUGE!

    Good call, Albertitto. Real French baguettes (and Euro quality bread in general) bring tears in my eyes, and so far that has only happened at Almondine.

    I have also bought some pretty authentic almond croissants at Cafe Champignon (202 7th Avenue, in Manhattan), don't know about their baguettes but I was impressed by how really French the quality was.     There's a place in Manhattan called Macaron on 36th between 7th and 6th. The owner is from France his staff is all French and they make the perfect Parisian sandwich (fresh baguette, jamon, gruyere, cornichons, and a homemade dijon mayo). They have other great sandwiches too. It is TINY and mostly good for takeout. It's the closest thing I've found in NYC that reminds me of those fantastic Paris sandwiches.
