Should Brooklyn Co-Op Boycott Israeli Products
Hi All,
I've been a long time reader of this board, but never registered until today.
I came across this article and was pretty disgusted by it, and I figured this was the place for this discussion.
Anybody have any thoughts?

yes.
because it will lead to a thoroughly entertaining flame war on this board. -
Seemed like a balanced news story to me. For a second there, I thought it was gonna be a spoof though.

As long as they don't ban hipsters.
-
Hell NO. All that middle eastern food is much too tasty to ban.
How about we ban crappy pizza instead? -
Interesting that CBS chose to run this story. Must have been a slow news day, plus one where their fact-checkers were out sick.

Bringing up the Israel/Palestine issue in a blog comments section is *always* a genius idea. It will definitely lead to more peace, love, and understanding.
Hitler/nazi analogies commencing in 3, 2, 1... -

Yup.
There's ONE Coop member who brought this up. One out of 15,000. When a member has an idea, they can propose it to the membership. As I understand it, someone had an idea but then didn't take it through the process to get it voted on.
I read about it on Gowanus Lounge last week. Allen Zimmerman (a general coordinator staff person, which is as close as we have to Officials) commented on that thread that it was not under consideration. The Jewish Forward totally got it wrong. WCBS totally got it wrong, days after the Forward story was corrected.
(feh)
I'm opposed to what Israel is doing to Gaza, but this particular boycott idea seems pretty ineffective and unformed. So easy to yell BOYCOTT, so hard to do the work. -
That's very interesting info Pitu. Are you saying there really was no story here at all, that perhaps the interest in the boycott at the co-op was exaggerated? Thanks for sharing that info.

I liked this line acredited to Mr. Zimmerman in the Jewish Daily Forward in regards to the coops diversity...
“A lot of people are here for the tofu, but a lot of people are here for the beef and pork,” he said." -
