someone stole my goddamn credit card number — Brooklynian

someone stole my goddamn credit card number

Thats so annoying. This is going to take forever. its weird, I have the card still and I havnt even used it in 7 months (it was fully paid off so I noticed the charge right away.) I'm hyper vigilant about security with it...I wonder how they got the number.

  • What did they buy???
  • $360 at "One Hour Cellular"

im pretty sure its a front, its EXACTLY $360...
  • Yeah, I had that happen with an Amex a few months back... funny thing is that it was still in my possession, almost never left the house, and was used maybe 2 or 3 times total.

Ditto! Makes you wonder how this happens.
  • Tricky fuckers.
  • wow, amazing article.

You sort of feel sorry for the guy. Could def be an awesome movie like Oceans 11.
  • It's happened to me twice now. Once two years ago on my AmEx, and once about two weeks ago on a Chase credit card. Both cards had had zero balances for ages. I think that people get the # through those checks the credit card companies send out. Usually the account number is printed on those checks and I wouldn't be surprised if people dumpster dived for those things. But this is a totally unresearched theory, so don't take my word for it.

OOooo that makes sense! I've gotten a lot of those lately. I rip them into three sections but I'll have to be more careful! Its gotta be something like that because I barely EVER used this card (only for major purchases at chain stores.)

good call. I need a shredder.
  • definitely, definitely use a shredder.

Time to time there is are reports of cyber crimes where databases of hundreds of thousands of credit card accounts are pilfered. Guess y'all got caught out there.

Yes, I have also had the same problem with Chase, also around the same time. A card I don't take out of house, use only to pay EZPass. Now closed.
I am annoyed, even though they removed the charges, because the credit card companies always used to flag unusual usage before okaying them and would call me before allowing. I asked what happened to that policy, but they had no answer.
