There is a wonderful stray cat living in an abandoned building on my street (Prospect Place). He is not feral, I imagine someone dumped him. I don't think that he has been outside for too long although he has been in the same spot for over a month now. I want to find him a foster home as soon as possible - I want to get him off of the streets. The abandoned building where he lives is unsafe. The cat (who I have recently started calling "Tommy") is currently living on a piece of board that is laying on top of beams that go straight to a basement. If he was ever to lose his balance and fall, he would never be able to get out. The front of the building is open but the bars are severely rusty. I have been feeding him for several weeks so that he would not have to go looking for food and so that I could assess his personality. He loves to be petted, rolls over so that you can pet his belly, and meows back when you talk to him. When you call him he immediately comes over to you. We have some cases of FIV (feline AIDS) in the feral cat colony on my block. I want to get him indoors before he contracts this terrible disease or gets hit by a car on the busy street. We have also recently had some suspected incidents of poisoning on my block. I don't want Tommy become injured.

I will gladly pay for all of his vet expenses and his food/litter. He would be neutered, tested for FELV/FIV, examined by a veterinarian, dewormed, given flea treatment, and started on his vaccines before coming to your home. He will also be cleaned up - although he is already amazingly clean for being outside. I will also be responsible for finding him a permanent home. I don't think that he will need to be fostered for very long - he is extremely friendly and will make a nice companion for one lucky family. Tommy does not seem fearful of dogs.

Please let me know if you have an interest in fostering Tommy - I know that you won't regret. And if at any time you decide that it isn't working for you, I will gladly find him another foster home - no questions asked.

Thank you,
Andrea

Yeah for Tommy! He's gotten this far, let's get him into a great home :D
  • Yes, Tommy is now looking for a permanent home. He is a great cat - not shy and very loving. He has been taken to the vet and is FELV/FIV negative, received his first dose of deworming, his first vaccines, flea treatment, and is scheduled to be neutered on the 25th. Please let me know if you or anyone that you know is interested. Tommy is a good boy - whoever adopts him is one lucky individual.
