(attempted) Break-in on Underhill — Brooklynian

(attempted) Break-in on Underhill

Preface; I always take pause before posting stuff like this. Reason being that I haven’t posted all of the 3648 days that were uneventful crime-wise.

But, on to the story: Very early this morning (5am) someone buzzed our top floor tenant. My guess is that they didn’t get a response. After that they jimmied, the front door and attempted to do the same with the inner door where their efforts produced no entry. Beyond that, they would have had to get through our respective steel doors (social engineering aside). Obviously, the whole building has the collective heebie-jeebies. This afternoon, I’ll have a call in to the 77th (specifically Det. Raton). Also I’ll ask for a security assessment from the precinct (which they do for free) to see if I need anything else.

‘Till then I’ll be on the other side of the door with a baseball bat.

  • An outdoor motion detector light, a ADT system and a rabid chimpanzee with a crow bar in hand crouching by your front door.
  • That sucks Quig. Did anyone from the garage get a look at them?
  • I'm going to talk with Rudy tonight. Could have been *alot * worse.
  • I totally agree with you there. Although it could have been worse for them - if they came face to face with Edith :)

Not that I was ever paranoid about a break-in before, but having dog really puts you at ease. I wouldn't be surprised if a dog was, statistically, the best deterrent out there... [shameless plug] that being said, Lucy is still available for the right home, at absolutely no cost! :D [/shameless plug]
  • I hope they catch him or them. It would scare the crap out of me. i got mugged before but only on the streets never like at home and stuff. I did have stuff stolen out of my house from break ins before too. but never with me in there.

I wish we have like a bunch of guys riding around in a pickup with shotguns :p to scare folks.

Armchair - I know you are working on your new home and will have construction going on soon so you should be very careful about locking it up - this happened right around the corner from you ;).

Also the construction site next door to me has been hit 4 times since he started renovating (although personally I think it was an inside job).
  • Where on Underhill?
  • Between St. Marks and Prospect.

    nybt
I have two (sleeping) dogs, if they ever got to the point of getting through the second door, they would have had to "dance" with Nigel our coonhound.
