Neighborhood Watch — Brooklynian

Neighborhood Watch

Hey! Does anyone have any info on how to go about starting a neighborhood watch? My boss was telling me how a few years back they had started a grass roots neighborhood watch for her hood on the upper westside. She wasn't really a part of it so couldn't really give me all that much info.

Anyway, I think it would be great to start one in my hood and it would allow more people to meet their nieghbors, as well as, having a number of people to look out for one another and possibly work together to promote issues and have a voice within the city gov't.

  • Neighbrohood watch wtf. This isnt the bill cosby tv brooklyn. Oh wait. I didnt read that whole shit. Well ok... u have some good reasons but just dont go around trying to snitch on people that have nothing to do with you unless they've done something outrageous... it brings bad karma.
  • Go to your local police community board meeting, meet your community relations officers and tell them you want to do the blockwatchers program. It's a formal training the NYPD offers to residents/block associations and you are assigned a number which you use to call in to 911 anonymously.
  • Hey, relax.. just an idea I'm throwing out there. Like I said I was talking to my boss and it seemed like a possible idea. I agree w/ the karma comment 100%! And I'm not a snitch. But I do believe that the city is a great opportunity to develop community to promote change, thats all.

    Thanks for the input lorenzo
  • I think it is a great idea that you want to be involved in your community. You can't possibly take anyone that would think you are a snitch seriously when that is not the purpose of a community watch program.
