IS anyone else seeing that Nudie picture to the right!?

Sorry, Andy.
I have contributed to the site before and am totally willing to continue doing that. I think it's actually a good idea to put the "support Brooklynian" link back at the top of the page so that people, especially us freeloading ad-blockers, can contribute to keeping the site running. -
My apologies, too. Definitely understand the need to drive funds to keep the LEDs a-blinkin' here.
I'm not an ad-free surfer type. Heck, like so many around here, I work in the business and appreciate there being a business to work in. Except those lousy Comet cursor and Gator sypware types. And those obnoxious underlined/highlighted text hover ads in news articles. Those blow.
But I digress.
In my case I don't block everything, as I mentioned. Just the outbound links that seem to break things on a regular basis.
Specifically, there are certain 3rd-party ad servers and site metrics utilities (sitemeter, I am looking at you...) that utterly hose Firefox and crash it without fail after being open for a while. (perhaps a combination of slow ad server responses or timeouts getting gnarled up in Firefox's *still* lousy memory leaks).
Others have reported similar experiences with 3rd-party ad servers on Brooklynian and elsewhere out there on the web.
After so many times of having a few bad apples spoil the whole lot of all the tabs and windows one has open for various purposes, occasionally crashing my entire Dual 2.7GHz, 8GB RAM workstation and all I had open with it...
One simply has to start carving out the bad apples, so to speak.
Instead of throwing them all out with the bath-water, that is. (hah, wha?)
I also noticed that the vertical positioning and height of various ads across the top (above the nav menu) would often overflow right over the nav menu itself in my OS/browser environment, blocking access to much of the nav menu entirely. Sorry, had to block that one, too, even though it may just be a harmless box of text links at any given moment.
But the right-side ads, with the nutball pics...no need to block those.
They've never been a bother, at least in a technical sense (hah). Often quite entertaining.
So I definitely keep those on.
***edited to add: Oh great. I've taken a nudie pic thread and somehow made it very boring all of a sudden. Oops, sorry. Doh! #-o -
I would prefer people not have to pay for the 'privilege' of accessing brooklynian, and let the advertisers bear the weight. An ad free site would be classier, though, no doubt. As Pamela has taught us.
-
Someone needs to put naked Brad Pitt Ads up, I'd pay for that :P
Also, Ian needs to up load some pics into the brooklynian flikr pool, so I don't need to see that damn decapitated pigeon. -
