  • Okay, folks...how much did you pay for gas this very cold January? We live in the top floor of a row house, lots of big windows. Keeping it at 68 in the day and 62 at night, our 750-sq ft place cost about $300 that month. Nuts?
  • thats very high i think?

last year winter my parents came for a visit and i rented them a 1 br apt for 3 weeks. now, they came from a tropical country, not used to the winter at all. the heater in the apt was not enough for them, so i lent them my portable heater which they turned on day and night, and thats everyday. they didnt go out much as they couldnt stand the cold. it was like a sauna whenever i came to their apt.

when they left, i told the landlord that i would be willing to share the electricity bill because i knew it would be super high. 3 weeks of constant use of heater, it was 100+, but less than 150 if i remember it correctly. its still very high compared to what we usually pay in my 2 br apt, about 50-60 $ / mth.

    but 300 is too high.
  • That's not for electric, but for a gas boiler that does heat/cooking/hot water. So hard to say! But thanks for the input. I think it's high too. :)
  • We have a three floor apartment in a brownstone, including a space heater in our front parlor that we use every morning in cold weather.

We are not careful about unplugging unused fixtures. We have a 46" instant-on LCD tv. My wife has never in her life turned off a light bulb.

Our electric bills this year were $118, $244 and $172.
