  • Meryl was there quite a bit this summer filming Julie & Julia - they shot a wedding scene near the skating rink (I'm not sure which building is considered the picnic house)
  • ah, yes...forgot that this was the one...thanks..

they were filming down toward the skating rink where there is a big covered area
  • steve martin defines the term "has been." he made so many hilarious movies back in the 1970's and 80's, but at this point it's been about 20 years since he made anything decent
  • when he was in his prime ,he did an interview and was asked , how long will you being doing the wild and crazy guy act, his response, as long as they pay me, i'll continue doing this crap.

I guess he'll give the same response if asked about his film career.
  • Before he was in his prime, he was in his prime.

That is Dina Martin, Dean's daughter.

She coulda been Dina Martin Martin

God, the Pink Panther looks pathetic and they made 2 of them.

My 8 year old did not want to got the the second Pink Panther movie. She said the first one was boring.
  • get ready for the son of the pink panther and the pink panther meets abbot and costello
  • i just thought the remake of cheaper by the dozen was literally the worst movie i ever saw in my life. all the gags were just so poorly executed, none of them made you laugh. and every actor was horribly miscast (martin did not look like a football coach, bonnie hunt did not look like a mother of twelve, the high school son looked way too old to be in high school, none of the brothers and sisters looked anything alike, etc)
  • honestly, it would never occur to me that steve martin was a has been. ever.
  • Meryl Streep gets arou d the neighborhood! A few years ago I saw Meryl Streep filming a scene on Flatbush Ave on the Prospect Heights side. I can't remember the cross street but possibly across from Prospect Perk.
  • brooklynpotter, try naming the last decent movie martin made?
  • i don't think i've seen any of his movies in a hundred years. but i find it hard to think of him as a has-been
  • Okay, this is from the 80s but one of my fav movies ever is "Planes, Trains, & Automobiles". It's not hip or cool but Steve Martin does "building-anger" so well and John Candy does "annoying-but-lovable" so well. I never fail to laugh hysterically while watching that movie every Thanksgiving.
  • i love that movie too! its one of the few true thanksgiving movies in existence, and i like it much better then home for the holidays. i remember that scene when martin is yelling at john candy and says "oh by the way, the next time your telling one of those stories of yours, heres a little idea: have a point! it makes it so much more interesting to the listener." hilarious

but that movie is 22 years old
  • but how do you define a has-been?
  • someone who use to be great at whatever he/she does, but now is just plain old terrible. and has been terrible for well over ten years.

sounds like a bit of a contradiction to me
  • Coincidentally, I watched PLENTY last night.. delivered from Netflicks. Meryl was just amazing.. circa 1985.. but in her case the older, the better.. still with us and acting from the heart. Steve Martin.. well never so much so from the heart and now perhaps even less..
  • Hello! Steve Martin is also a brilliant writer. He wrote one of my favorite books last year "Born Standing Up." Its all about his career as a stand up comic. You should check it out.
  • Yeah, I'm with Duffy'sSis. Steve Martin is an amazing writer. Just because his hollywood stuff has sucked lately (most hollywood releases are crap anyway) doesn't mean he's washed up.
  • I remember see this happen on the little b&w TV

    ">

I did not see it in color till just now
  • I love him, but I found the coupling of him and Claire Danes in Shopgirl just plain disturbing because of the age difference + lack of chemistry
  • ringrunner, i love you.

this is a man who could not ever be a has been

This.^^^^^^^^^^^Totally- man is BRILLIANT. His tribute at the JFK theatre a few years ago was just awesome. He's also a great and very clever songwriter and banjo player.

Do NOT mess with my Martin!
  • and he is a wild and crazy guy!

I am gonna go to the park to give him a hug, I hope he is there today!

what time should we look for you on Gothamist police reports?

Now I've got "King Tut...funky tut...born in Babylonia, got a condo made of stone-a" stuck in my head. Damn "you people"!
  • Meryl and Steve are filming the new (as yet untitled) Nancy Meyers film. Meyers did the great SOMETHIN'S GOTTA GIVE with Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton. So, maybe it will actually be a good "Steve Martin film." Though I can't imagine he could ever outshine Meryl. Who is a goddess. Now and forever.

Re: Martin's films: Though I've not seen it, I heard SHOPGIRL with Claire Daines was a good flick. Written by - and based on a novel by - Steve Martin. Though now that I think about it, I remember it being praised mostly for Daines' performance. But, I agree - don't think I've cared even remotely about any of his films since PARENTHOOD and PLANES TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES.

However, I would watch Streep read the freakin' phone book.

Anyone know if they'll still be filming this weekend?
  • i actually think he was pretty funny in baby mama, wow i cant believe i just typed that
