Gowanus Lounge-RIP Robert Guskind

"a broken man" is "the essential news"?
once again, the brooklyn paper reminds me why i don't read it. -
The Brooklyn Paper is piece of shit that i wouldn't even wipe my ass with. They constantly stole Bob's stories and passed them off as their own 'breaking news.' now they run this trash.
GERSH KUNTZMAN, FUCK YOU! -
An article doesn't use gossip to fill its lines. And a journalist acknowledges changes to an article. I first read that article almost as soon as it was posted, and it's more than a tad different now.
Robert Guskind was a boon to Brooklyn and a cheerleader for those of us who attempted to imitate him, however poorly. -
The Brooklyn Paper has problems with real journalism and their own attitude. That is no way to cover a "breaking story."
-
**Content deleted** This discussion should be about honoring Bob's life. Nothing else.

Curbed just posted a more detailed reflection upon their time knowing and working with him:

Like perhaps many lurking here in this thread, I've struggled with what to say here that wouldn't be just a "ditto" sort of post.
But then I considered that he helped shape so many others' understanding of the Brooklyn around them that any response - even if just a "me too" roll call - would be just fine here.
Especially as it might shed at least some light upon the sheer volume of people who followed and appreciated his work and spirit on a perhaps daily basis.
To his family and close friends, the Brooklyn I've witnessed feels heavy today with this loss.
So, ditto, me too. -
If you check out the video today from Heather on www.newyorkshitty.com he does not sound broken at all, just the caring journalist. Watch and listen to the video for a real portrait of the man.
-
My condolences to his family and loved ones.
-
What heartbreaking news. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
When my dog was stolen last year, Bob and Miss Heather were the first media to get the word out. Thanks to their efforts, my story received enough coverage that the people who "bought" my stolen dog saw the story on tv and returned her to the police.
Rest in peace, Bob, and thank you for reuniting me with my beloved friend. -
Folks--please remember--don't wait till someone passes to "let them know how you feel." Reach out to others--especially during these hard times--say hello to your shopkeeps/drycleaners/dogwalkers/neighbors/bartenders--even if you're not buying. Condolences mean nothing to their intended recipient.
The Flaming Lips said it best:
"Do You Realize - that everyone you know someday will die
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast..."
Goodbye Robert. You are missed. -
Subject: In Remembrance of Robert Guskind
We've posted a video of Bob from our BROOKLYN REVIEW show on our blog. Please take a look at how much he loved his neighborhood:
http://briccommunitymedia.wordpress.com/2009/03/05/remembering-robert-guskind-founder-of-the-gowanus-lounge/
We were so sad to learn the news of the recent passing of Robert Guskind. Robert Guskind was a friend to Brooklyn Independent Television, often contributing to our “A Walk Around The Blog” segments on Brooklyn Review and as a frequent guest on Reporter Roundtable shows. We extend our condolences to Guskind’s family, friends and followers of Gowanus Lounge.
His love for Brooklyn is obvious and we will greatly miss his contributions to our shows, but mostly his presence in our borough.
You will be missed, Bob. -
chipster:
i've been having a difficult time all day today with this for a variety of reasons. something about your words caused me to break down in tears sitting here at my desk just now. thank you. it was much needed, and you are so absolutely correct.
brooklyn lost a good one today. -

+1
GERSH KUNTZMAN, FUCK YOU!
At least in the comments on that article, everyone (except for a handful of total fuckwads) calls him out on what a piece of shit that story is. -
Prayers to his family.
-
Mike McLaughlin should write for the National Enquirer. Tacky and classless.

Hey, not to pimp Gersh, but it is a REPORT BY A LOCAL PAPER.
While it could have been a wee bit more sensitive, it is what it is.
If it's in the Times tomorrow will it be OK?
If BP does not run a "proper" obit, as they say they will, then pitchforks and torches. -

It was an insensitive, poorly written piece of trash by a reporter from a local paper. Which article evolved and was revised dramatically once the internet backlash to it was exposed. Gersh is a spineless jellyfish fucktard.

Regardless of POV, I stand by my comment. If you don't like the editorial, don't read the paper. Bob would have said the same against the BP or another media, if he felt it was not up to his level. THAT is a good gauge, yes? -

No it's not, LIGH. Gersh is fucked up and deserves every bit of criticism he gets from that shoddy tasteless bit of tripe. That was terrible journalism, and bad humanity. Being a local paper is hardly an excuse.
R.I.P. Bob.
But if you don't, please go haunt that SOB that talked smack about you. -

Uh, did you actually read what was posted at 10am and then again and 4pm? Gersh is a notoriously bad "journalist" who has no business being near his Mommy's computer. And yes, this is the internets, I am allowed to express my opinion.
No I didn't like the editorial and I did read it. In fact I thought it reeked of slimy exploitativeness.
Listen, there are a lot of people on here who are extremely upset about this. Let's just let it go, okay? This was a very emotional day for many. -
I was not using "local paper" as a front nor foil. Just looking at is "as-is."
IF this was in the Times, NYDN (not the Post, as had been intimated) would folks be as upset? BP becomes an easy target...or so would the Post?
I hope so! But also see what it really is...reporting on someone's death. Well done or not.
More of a point on journalism, not the quality of it...but I show my hand a wee bit.
Agreeing to agree on some, disagree on some as well, pitu?
(PS. I knew the guy as well, not as any buffer) -

And that may be the funniest thing I've read on a very sad day. Thanks. -

Point is, none of those papers would have printed the trash that Gersh originally did. Just let it go dude, I'm done.

RIP Bob. -
You guys stop. Let's just let it go. I will let you know if there is a pubic memorial.
-
Done and done. Bob RIP.

Done. This should be all about Bob. Thanks man, you were amazing. -

Oh my. I certainly hope not. But I adored Bob, and I will be at a public one. -
Thank you to whomever helped get the Gowanus Lounge site back online.
Just seeing it up again and considering its depth...whoah. -

“What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.”
According to a google search, this is a quote from Pericles---who to be perfectly honest I know practically nothing about, but I do like the quote and hope it offers a reminder to the friends and family and readers and fans of Mr. Guskind here. His legacy will not be found in a short article here or there about his end. It will found in his own words, his pictures, his videos, family photos and memories and in the loving tributes and stories of those he has touched through his work and in his personal life. When the anger over his death passes and the anger over his death coverage passes, he will remain in these things and people. My condolences.
Howdy, Stranger!
