Shutting down the Dailyheights Forums (now with explanation)
So I'm starting to think that the boards are feeling a bit provincial. The focus is on PH, and although we know Prospect Heights is the official Curbed.com Best Brooklyn Nabe, I really feel like we're missing the big picture.
I don't know how often you check out the other boards... I certainly don't as much as I should.
Bottom line, I think it's time to take the boards out of the shadow of Daily Heights, and spin them off into a separate entity that's more generically Brooklyn. Any objections?

PS. Here are just a few stories you may have missed. So many boards, so little time...
Shocking Experience with Legends Car Service
I told him that I'd NEVER been asked to pay upfront before and that I wasn't appreciating his attitude at all. He said, "I'm not driving you anywhere unless you pay me first you NIGGER BITCH. In fact, get the FUCK OUT OF MY CAR. I won't drive you anywhere. Take your boxes and get out."

2 Toms Restaurant
has anyone here been to Two Toms restaurant?
is it worth the trip?
out of 5 stars, how many stars would you give it?

Adios, PH/CH
The Missus and I are leaving the dog-mess landmined sidewalks of the PH/CH area for Sunset Park. Jessica's walk through the middle of a knockdown, rock-throwing incident instigated by young black kids toward a nebbish-looking, spectacled blanquito was the last straw for Jessie.

Shooting in CHThis is actually a pointer to an amazing NYT article following up on a Feb. 28 shooting on Carroll St. off Eastern Parkway. I won't give away the punch line, but the article details a Craigslist-inspired encounter between an older eccentric CH furniture dealer and a young Carroll Gardens hipster.

i think generic brooklyn would be great as a main type of message board
than sub cat for the diffrent areas. -

Prospect Heights provincial?!? Nah!

Well, I don't really care about restaurants in Bay Ridge, do you? Or what's happening today in Canarsie? If we had a generic Brooklyn board and nothing else, you would have to wade through that to get to what interests you.
than sub cat for the diffrent areas.
I'm simply talking about moving the boards to a new URL so it's not seen as "that Prospect Heights board."
We've already registered BrooklynPeople.com, so we could move it there, unless someone else has a better idea for a URL. -

Isn't BrooklynPeople covers the entire Brooklyn? -

How about Brooklynwhat?
It's generic enough (like BrooklynPeople) to accomodate a diverse set of boards, pertinent to the information sharing character of the forums, but also a paean to that unique New York form of interaction, screaming WHAT? WHAT? -
Why not DailyBrooklyn?

Hey, some of us do care about restaurants in Bay Ridge! It's an easy train ride from here, so I definitely consider it within my radius of places worth going for a good meal. -

Brooklynfix.com isn't taken.
-
haha... BrooklynJones would be even better, but it's already taken.
-
Carnivore wrote: Brooklynfix.com isn't taken.
I think I like that better than BrooklynPeople. BrooklynPeople has sort of a feel-good, Sesame Street type vibe to me that isn't really in keeping with the character of this board. -

How about FixBrooklyn.com
-
Got it.
Brooklynian.com -
dailyheights wrote: Got it.

Nice

I'm kind of surprised it was still available. It's an actual word in actual use...

Only 95 hits on Google. -
don't most people say brooklynite? or not. i just got here, so what do i know? just seems like brooklynian is kinda hard to say. says this native north carolinian, recent chicagoan.
i'll miss "dailyheights". it's a little jazzy. -

Definitely. People from Brooklyn are Brooklynites. That's probably why Brooklynian isn't taken.

I don't think you should change the name of the individual boards- just the main page that links to them. This should still be dailyheights. -

Check back in 3 months.
Daily Heights won't go away. The dailyheights.com blog will stay, and this will still be known as the dailyheights.com message board. -
Daily Heights is dead. Long live Daily Heights!

.....how about BrooklynDaily then
I have to agree with you on your reasons. I've had a hell of a time promoting the Brooklyn Heights board and the little voice I've gotten into it seems to be a back and forth with whoever is asking... and me. I like the idea of a collaborative board that makes everyone get to know all of the neighborhoods, or at least have an opinion. A collage de Brooklyn if you will. -
dailycrooklyn is available
-
How about:
BrooklynArea.com
BrooklynZone.com
BrooklynDistricts.com
BrooklynLocality.com -
I think it should be a "AmIHotOrNot" type site only with people fighting and accusing each other of destroying Brooklyn and us judging which poster is more Brooklyn. So maybe AmIBrooklynOrNot.com? Who's in?

im not sure if its the boards so much as some of the people/attitudes on here that are so provincial.
i know its soured me (for one) on this site more times than not lately...
i sure do miss the dh of yore, when it was all friends, photos and content... not endless debates on race, semantics, bullshit, whining, etc. oh well, things change i suppose. -
