New Bagel (and Coffe shop?) opening on 37th and 4th — Brooklynian

New Bagel (and Coffe shop?) opening on 37th and 4th

There is a huge wooden enclosure covering a shop site on 37th and 4th. Upon closer inspection by moi, it is slated to be a bagel shop. I hope its not a fast food bagel place, but someplace where you can actually sit and drink coffee.

Does anyone know for sure whether its going to be a bodega style bagel place or a nice cafe that you can sit in?

  • what i'd love down there is a place you can buy coffee without charging a fortune. the grimer corner deli near where i work (36th/3rd) charges $2 for a large coffee. that's 50 cents more than the coffee at the fancy deli i hit when i'm in the manhattan.
  • I hope we aren't gonna have a bagel store/coffee store overload...

that subway on 33rd and 4th needs to become something soon...been gated shut for months
  • there's that new place that finally, finally opened on 3rd between 36/35 (i think)... kosher pizza, felafel, knishes

Is it a sit down place? Hmm why haven't I been there. I need to walk around my nabe more!

I agree! The shittiest coffee is served in these parts and they charge Starbucks prices for it. My best coffee adventure is Roots Cafe on 17th and 5th, but its a hike from where i live. So I just amble over to Dunkin Donuts
    on 35 and 3rd
  • dunkin` donuts is the best coffee you'll find from there. i'm not a big fan.

the kosher place is new, lots of seats, but very bright. certainly not great ambiance
  • looks like the wood partitions around the first floor are gone, has anyone passed by and taken a look inside to see what it might look like?
  • I have looked now that the wood partitions are gone. It looks like there may be MINIMAL seating. The store has a "tiny deli with bright lights" look to its interior so far, but who knows when they finally finish it. I am hoping at least that they may have excellent coffee. I have been sorely disappointed about the coffee options in this nabe. I know latin americans are FAMOUS for their coffee, but all the places I have been to: (mexican, venezuelan, peruvian, and dominican) have ALL had shitty coffee.
  • I've had decent coffee luck (although I usually make it at home due to my cheapness). If you don't like it super sweet, just say so. There's a place on 7th and 47th(?) called Los Brothers that has good coffee IF you get it fresh.

I've also had good coffee at various 5th Ave bakeries.
  • looks like its going to be called Jerry's Bagels... the signs promises hand-rolled bagels... we'll see soon enough
  • Just so they boil them after hand rolling them
  • I walked by today and it was doing brisk business. Anyone been?
  • Subject: Jerry's Bagels

Yeah. I have been in. I cannot vouch for their bagels cause I haven't eaten any yet, but their salads are pretty yummy and their coffee is to DIE for! Their hazelnut is super flavorful and strong :D:D:D

Its clean in there and nice. No seating area, too bad. It would have been nice to have a coffee shop around these parts.
