New coffee shop on Classon?

That would be awesome. I'd definitely go.

Brownstoner had a little item about it.

You can see in there right now. Looks nice. I'm afraid the neighbors in 774 are going to drive away business though. They take over the whole sidewalk when it's warm out and yell and throw garbage everywhere. I hope this place lasts.
-
Just walked by, looks nice. There is a space next to it being renovated, is it part or something else??
-
Oh, man. This would be awesome. I hope they are open soon. Saje was always a disappointment (in many ways - which may be why they are gone), and Bristen's has Wi-Fi, but not the right vibe to be a regular coffee house/hang-out.
-
I dropped by on Sunday and the owner was very friendly. He said that they'd been open for a trial run on Saturday and that this Tuesday (tomorrow) is the big day. Hope that the snow day doesn't hold him back!
-
Same owner as Weather Up, so I'm sure it's great. Love Catherine! Very excited to see she's doing stuff in the CH area.

As much as I hate Weather Up, I'll give this place a try. It's always great to have another place to relax and catch up on some reading.
-
like weather up, it looks like they continue to have a thing for white subway tile.
...the stuff looks nice, but its a lot of work and expense.
c'mon, don't you want your new coffee place to embody laziness and cheapness? -
Interesting, the person I talked to was a guy! He didn't say he was the owner. I just assumed b/c he was working alone inside. Maybe he's a co-owner? Anyway, thrilled that they're the Weather Up folks and have some experience running a business. I want this place to stay around!
-
Yea- I heard it was a co-ownership thing. The guy sounds like he'll be the more day to day presence.

did anyone go in today? i am held up at work still...
-
i stopped by tonight around 7:30 and they were closed, with no sign of their hours. anyone know?
-
He told me they close at 6pm. Not sure what time they open in the AM.
-
-
i think it's "loc"
-
So it's owned by Tone Loc?
-
Yes. They have specialty coffee drink entitled Funky Cold Medina.
-
Walked past there today. The glass door has already been smashed.
We didn't buy anything, so I can't speak to the quality of beverages, etc., but I think it looks kind of bleak and drab, not to mention they've left the metal grates up over the windows while they're open, which isn't that welcoming. Not exactly the cozy sort of space I think of in a cafe where you want to linger. But YMMV. -
Subject: it's open
We stopped by today and were impressed. Sparse, unfinished and very cool space. (No sign that a glass door had been broken in - maybe you were looking at the adjacent building?) They serve espresso drinks but will be having drip coffee available at some point this week. Open 8 a.m. til 6 p.m. and closed Mondays. They had very yummy-looking fresh sandwiches and some olive oil pound cake that was fabulous. I'm psyched to have good coffee in the neighborhood. -
I had an Americano yesterday, and it was excellent. Definitely will go back. As for the window, it was definitely smashed last week, they must have fixed it or something. And knowing the neighborhood and the idiots living on the new shop's block, I would most definitely keep those window grates up. Looking forward to them opening the backyard when it's warmer.
-
I've been here 3 or 4 times since it's opened. The Coffee is great. The guys running the place (I think his name is Francesco) is really nice and open to suggestions. I spoke to him for a while yesterday about doing drip and he sounded open to it.
Also- the broken glass on the door is a hold over from the previous business in that location. (A glass repair shop ironically) -
Anyone know anything about their beans? Where they get 'em? If they roast 'em? If they sell 'em?
-
The beans are La Colombe, from Philly.

Awesome news! Thanks! -
Just my opinion, but this place doesn't look very welcoming. With the gates on the windows it's hard to see in.

I've been living in Crown Heights for 5 years, before the Jewish Hospital started renting apts, and I used to be so scared walking home from the shuttle. The street had no working street lights, practically no people taking the shuttle, ( I was usually the only one getting off at Park Place stop) the streets were pretty deserted except for groups of dealers hanging out on the corners, and there were robberies and even a few murders
Once the hospital apts were rented, the area changed and tons of highrises and renovated buildings have popped up. Even though there were a lot of reasons Saje didn't work out (like the owner's boyfriend the "artist" constantly hitting on (and sometimes succeeding) the female customers, it was the first place in the hood where you could meet neighbors.
And yes, Bristen's is really cool, but every time I've tried to just have coffee and read, the workers come over a hundred times asking if I want to order lunch or dinner. (ps their flea market sounds cool) I like the owner of Homage, but still we really need a coffee cafe or, God forbid, a Starbucks. Yeah we hate 'em, but where else can you sit for an hour or two and have only one coffee?
Can't wait to check out Glass Coffee; thanks for spreading the word! -
Walked by Glass Shop today at around 4:45 PM and it wasn't open. Anyone know what the deal is?
Howdy, Stranger!
