Has it reopened yet? Anyone go? What do you think? Is the menu the same?

  • i hope so!! i need my beet salad again SOON.
  • I called almost every day in February (shut up, I'm hungry) and they finally changed their recording to say March 15th for re-opening. I haven't called since to see if that's changed, but you better believe I'm counting down to being able to have the #27 for lunch again.
  • yay! I love them
  • remodel?! why can't they PLEASE OPEN A SHOP CLOSER TO 9th ST?!! PRETTY PLEASE?
  • the paper on the front windows was down today. the place definitely looks different. there's a front counter, and the seating looks to be in the back now.

of course, all the remodeling in the world don't mean a thing if it still takes a half hour to get a sandwich served there..... ;)
  • I don't recall the waits being painful, and their sandwiches are great.
  • Oh the wait is interminable. Don't even bother with delivery. But the sandwiches are very good. I did not think they would reopen after the remodel, so I am glad to hear things are moving along.
  • i've never waited a long time there at all. and i go often.

    their sandwiches are terrific!

  • Nope, Jamzer is right. Last time I ordered it was over an hour for delivery - and even pickup takes about 20-30 minutes. But for the #27 I will wait. . . .
  • Thanks very much for all the comments, positive and negative. As owner of Press 195 we have contended with the battle of getting fresh cooked food out to the masses while working in a 90 square foot kitchen. Imagine 4 people crammed into that space and that is what our life has been for the past 7 years. Though always applauded for our food, our service has never been quick. We have redesigned the entire store, including brand new kitchen and adding a Point of Sale Computer system, so that we can speed up the service. We have never and will never be as fast as a Subway per se as all our sandwiches need to be assembled and then cooked on the grill which is a minimum of 8-10 min even if there was only one order, but know it is mandatory to speed the service up. We are also adding new menu items including 1/2 lb burgers, new salads, 6 beers on tap and a full liquor license. We were anticipating opening Feb 28th but due to NYC dept. issues we are looking to an early April opening. If anybody has any questions, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. Thanks and we look forward to seeing you at Press 195!

  • Well done! Thanks for reminding us of why we love your place. I dunno why I expect my #8 to instantly appear...as if in a dream....grilled to perfection:)
  • Yay! I don't need sandwiches as quickly as I I'd get at Subway, but I do need a #12. I've been a customer since the month you opened....and can't wait to see the remodeling.

So, Brian....what exactly is the best-selling sandwich there?

(and can you please, please, please expand your delivery area into WT)
  • Nice to hear from some of our regulars. Things are looking very nice at the store as our bar was just completed yesterday. We are simply awaiting bDept Buildings sign offs and then we are ready to open......

Flexichick -- you had asked what ur best selling sandwich is--overall it has to be the #18 grilled chicken, cheddar, m. jack, onions, cilantro and black bean hummus, that one certainly tops the charts always.

  • Brian -
Thanks so much for posting this information. I can't wait to check the redesigned place out. May I suggest that you dedicate one of your new beer taps to a Sixpoint brew? The combination of your sandwiches with a nice cold Sweet Action is making my mouth water right now.

Good luck with the "new" space.

Interesting....and thanks for the info, Brian. I don't think I have tried #18, but I will....maybe I'll even "out" myself to you next time I am there.
  • Nice! I'm a #18 man myself -- glad to know I'm not the only one. Great news on the renovated digs and offerings.
  • Flexichick wrote: Yay! I don't need sandwiches as quickly as I I'd get at Subway, but I do need a #12.
    #12... *drrroooollll*

My favorite! I always want to try other things but then I sit down and "#12 please" just comes out of my mouth before I can even think anything else.

    To Press195:
You guys have fantastic food! I admit that I'm one of the people that has thought it takes a little long to serve sometimes. I know these sandwiches take time and they are always worth the wait but I've been in there before where it's taken 45 minutes to get a sandwich. Staff is always nice and food is always great though. I'm hoping the new shop design will allow the staff to be a little more attentive to the people in the front. I always felt like it was a struggle for them to attend to front tables while answering phones and get drinks for people fast because everything was in the back of the store which meant they tended to hang out back there a lot.

My only other comment would be about delivery service. Do it or don't do it. You have no idea how frustrating it is to call and find out you just aren't delivering right now. I've never called other restaurants in the area that offer delivery and been told they can't right now. That's just strange to me. If you want to limit to certain days/times that's fine but just print it on the menu and stick to it.
  • very good point about delivery, hollyhock.

i remember the first time i went after moving to the neighborhood, immediately fell in love with the food and asked at the end of my meal whether they deliver or not.

the answer..."sometimes....well maybe...where do you live..."

deliver or don't. either way, we'll love you all the same.
  • belzjm wrote: deliver or don't. either way, we'll love you all the same.
True, but... please deliver. Because we'll love you MORE if you do.
  • I walked by last night and had a mild panic attack because I thought it was closed. Glad to hear it's for remodeling. Great sandwiches and salads, and I love having the red sangria out in the back during the summer! :)
  • For any of those interested in updated Press 195 information please go to http://www.press195.com/News.aspx This is our news blog for the restaurant and includes some pictures of the renovation. We are very close and simply need to get past the Dept. of Buildings so that we can open.
    Thanks

  • Subject: Press 195 Re-Opened today

For all those following the recent Press 195 thread, today we are, after many months, opening our door! We thank all those customers who have supported us in the past. We have spent much time, money and patience putting the version two of the store together. I can only ask that for all past and future customers, please come by and give us a shot. I think you will be very pleased. Look forward to it.

  • Brian, can you explicitly say what radius one and radius two are for delivery? Any chance of getting delivery in Prospect Heights? I'm less than a block from Grand Army Plaza...
  • we will be indeed delivering to that area. we have hired a full time delivery driver with car so that we can avoid any delivery issues for the future. thanks very much for the interest and look forward to getting some food to you!

  • I'm wondering if anyone else has had trouble with the service at Press since they've reopened.

I went with a friend just after they reopened. About 45 minutes after taking our order, the waiter came back and said he couldn't remember what we ordered. It was another 20 minutes or so until we got our food. He obviously forgot to put the order in, we chalked it up to opening weekend kinks, but felt like he could have offered us a round of drinks (especially since we were drinking drafts). The food was great, but anything over an hour to wait for your food is tough to deal with.

I went this weekend with a couple of friends. First off, the waitress was really hovering while we just started looking at our menus. I asked about one of the wines and she said "well, it's dry, but not really that dry"..... Thanks.

When my sandwich came out it didn't really look like what I had ordered, but I thought I might have read the description wrong. A few minutes later the waitress and another guy came over and said, "that's not your sandwich, did you eat any of it yet?" I hadn't because it wasn't really what I wanted. They took it away and promptly brought out my correct sandwich. We watched, and sure enough, they walked the other sandwich back into the kitchen and less than 2 minutes later, served it to the table next to us who had ordered it.

I asked my friends how many times to give a place a chance before you have to write it off. We agreed that the third time is probably a deal breaker. It is too bad because I never had a problem there before and I love their food. I don't even think it is an issue from the kitchen, because both times it has clearly been a problem with the server.

Just wondering if anyone else has had problems.
  • perhaps it would be more productive to say something when you're there experiencing these issues.

what kind of person gets a sandwich they didn't order, sit there not eat it, not say anything to the server, then come and complain about it on the computer?

sorry, i don't understand what the world is coming to.

most *normal* people in those 2 minutes would have said to the server...hey...i don't think this is what i ordered. not stared at it, not eating a bite, then watching the server's every move.
  • I've eaten there a couple times since it's reopened and haven't had any problems.

Although the delivery driver decided to vent his frustrations to me (even though it was my first time meeting him) when I ordered delivery last week, about how tired he was and how he hadn't had anything to do for hours. I'd personally prefer if he just gave me my food and took my money. It still took 45 minutes for it to get to me.

The quality of the food, though, has been just as good as I remember, if not better.
