should i call the cops? — Brooklynian

should i call the cops?

Long story short. my brother sold my old car to some guy. my brother turn in the plates, but was to lazy to turn in the title himself. so he gave it to the new owner to turn in. some how the new owner got a hold of the old plates! and i'm getting tickets for them. so should i just call the cops and said the car is stolen cause the new owner is a jackass and didnt turn in the title and still register under old info etc....

My brother is gonna talk to the dude tonight. if this all fails. should i call the cops?

  • you sign the title over to the new owner. the new owner then shows the title to the dmv in order to register the car. you should have peeled the registration sticker off the car when it was sold. you dont have to call the cops, just fight the tickets.
  • I'd definitely call the cops & document everything. don't say the car was stolen, just tell them what happened & find out what you can do to protect yourself from this person. obviously you didn't know someone could turn in your title & get plates with it. (i'm not sure you can trust whatever this dud says to your brother, he sounds totally sketchy--he obviously went out of his way to get your plates with probably not good intentions). you gotta get the plates back.
