how's the parking around there? anybody know?
-
Sweet, that's good to know, I've been so disenchanted with the grocery stores in this 'nabe I've been bussing it to my old hood(the rock and roll Key food) since I moved here over a year ago. Will check it out this weekend.

I was gonna ask the same thing...
Any chance the vacant lot next door might be a small parking lot for them..
that would be nice -
i know nothing about parking there. i can just tell you that the place was awesome
-
Didn't that C- Town replace the Trade Fair with the mysterious stench? Is it the same management?
-
i think it was a national supermarket, and it smelled like ass.
totally different management; all c-town are franchises, i think. -
gonna go check it out today....

if you can remember to check out the parking situ, that would be great (even if you don't drive, it would be cool to know if there is a lot nearby) -
Does anybody know if they offer delivery? I'm excited for a new grocery store option!
-
OK, just got back from the C-Town....it is a definite improvement over the National Supermarket that was there... very clean and a good thing for the neigh.
This is my humble review..
PARKING:
The parking situ is iffy at best. There are a lot of auto body repair shops, factory type places all around with multiple bays so street parking is reduced. Also, the street cleaning times on 25th are weird, 11:30am to 1pm Tues and Fri on one side, 8:30am to 11am Mon and Thurs on the other. Since I don't know if the shops open on weekends the prospect of finding a close spot might be better on Sat and Sun, but during the week with the construction next door on 4th, it's slim. If you take the train its great, R train literally at your feet.
INSIDE:
All looks clean and brand new. I did notice a lot of stuff in the aisles which may mean they have limited stock areas. That made it hard to see all the choices for things, but again they opened recently so this may work itself out. Produce looks good, meat section was very good (tho didn't buy as fridge stocked already). The aisles are narrow so if you are an up-and-down each aisle kinda person, might take some extra driving skills.
All in all, it is (for me and my family mind you) a good option in a pinch..the OMG no toilet paper moment. If you drive, it might be harder. I usually go to the Key Food on Prospect (parking, felt like a better selection of food choices, and ALWAYS empty..at least when I go), or the Key Food on 5th near Douglass (great parking, big aisles, lots and lots of choices) or if your have weekdays free Fairway. Now many might say you can't compare and that's true...but if you have a car and the time in the middle of the day on a Wednesday...the 15 minute (maybe 25) drive to Red Hook is worth it.
My very humble opinion, I am glad to have a good, clean supermarket I can walk to and hope that it does well. With so few things in walking distance I am rooting for everything and anything that opens nearby. -
Thanks for the review - lots of details!
I am very close to the Key Foods on Prospect, which does have parking and is not crowed, but I don't like the selection and the staff is often rude and doesn't seem to care whether you are happy or not. -
and their produce sucks ass and everything is dusty.
-
Am a major fan of Rossman Farms on 25th and Third Avenue. Parking is tough there, but I am going to go out on a limb and say that their produce is better than Fairway. Got 4 monster bags of friut and vegetables for $26.00, a huge thing of almonds for $5.00 and grind-your-own-coffee $5.99 a pound. Excellent
-
Rossman's is great! I can't believe you managed to spend $26 there......it's so cheap!
-
their produce *is* better than fairway.
-
Agreed, the produce at Rossman's is good (and the nuts/dried fruit rocks), but you have to be ready to use it NOW.
-
I drove by C-town this AM while taking Oscar to visit Auntie Carmen and parking didn't look horrible at about 11 AM. There were plenty of metered spots across the street and a few on the next block from C-Town.
-
Though it looked just dandy. Hope to do a shop there this week and report back on options and pricing. I miss the old "cheapo" National, but not it's vibe or dirtiness.
Same owner, anyway. -
I stopped in the new C-town last night for the first time. I needed one thing but figured I'd pick up a couple of things for dinner based on what looked good. Well, they had the one thing I needed, and it was a month past the expiration date. They haven't even been reopened a month, so that item has obviously been sitting there through the renovation. Needless to say, I left without buying anything.
I never shopped in the old National, and based on first impressions, I'm guessing I won't be in this C-town very often despite the convenience. -
not to defend the c-town for having anything past expiration date, but it's not impossible it was delivered from the supplier that way.
-
Agreed, and the delay to opening may not have helped. Give them a few weeks...
-
i love the new c-town! its so convenient if you get off at 25th street. I generally shop at the pathmark for basics because it is appallingly cheap (dynamo detergent often on sale for buy one, get two free) and rossmans for fresh stuff - although, yes, it is all extremely fresh. rossmans is also great for pita breads and OMG prices on spices.
the c-town has great prices on meat and it looked good. their produce and flowers are nice too. definitely a spot for short trips, and, let's be honest, its nice to have a clean, new, fresh face on that block. the giant forever-and-ever construction site next door is not doing it any favors. -
just an FYI...check the chicken dates...
I'm not certain but fresh chicken doesn't typically expire 2 months away! -
Yikes, and I don't eat the chicky!
-
At first I was soooo happy!! Finally right near me some descent food!!
The first time i went in there they had some hormone free chicken!!! But never again. NEVER AGAIN! Ive been in six times. Its really sad that they refuse to put organic chicken in there. Or any real organic products or even soy products ( like that darn soy cheese that is eeewwie) but some of us are lactose intolerant. Looks like i STILL have to trek into center slope for my food and me veggie slices .. Humph.
Oh but i did get some nice organic arugula there. yums. -
So not a fan of this place. I wasn't impressed at all.
-
It feels like a let down, was hoping to be able to walk to a good supermarket...guess it's Key Food from now on.
-
The only plus I could see was that the cashier was really friendly and sweet. The aisles are thiswide so you have to wait for the jerk in front of you to finish reading all the labels on all the organic tofu and get the hell out of the way before you can move forward.
-
Just shopped there. You have to be there on the day the get shipments in ( I need to ask the owner) ALL the produce was very fresh.
We also had some salmon from their fish dept. (pre-packaged at a C-Town facility in Bklyn, I assume). Farm raised in Canada. Surprising fresh and good.
Howdy, Stranger!
