fishers and the coffee shop — Brooklynian

fishers and the coffee shop

Changes are coming. In the near future Fishers will be closing for renovations. We hope to accommodate with the ever changing neighborhood. Once open we will have an expanded frozen food, dairy, fruit and vegetable section. Along with a more environmentally friendly store. Also we will be opening in the summer coffee shop at 809 frankllin ave. As always we aspire to deliver the best service and quality to our customers. I will keep every one posted on all the updates and hope to receive feedback(be nice).

  • that sounds great.
If you take requests/feedback, can you carry [good] bagels/breakfast goodies in your coffee shop?

good luck and keep us posted!
  • I second the bagel request. Fresh bagels in the hood would be nice. Good luck... Also anyone know anyhing about the Mazon building on the corner? Havent seen any work being done lately.
  • I third that motion. A good, no frills bagel store would be great. Pick up a dozen... or maybe egg and cheese on a bagel? I can't wait.
  • If it helps or makes any difference I too would LOVE to grab a bagel in the morning. I walk by every single morning and if the coffee and bagels were good - you would get my business as well!
  • I would also love a coffee place on the way to the 4 train! It would be especially great if it was open before 8am, and served fair-trade coffee (Gorilla is fair-trade and roasted in Brooklyn).
  • agreed to the before 8am thing -- i am already teaching by then!
  • 809 Franklin appears to be the office for the Mazon project on the corner. Is this project dead, on hold because of financing? Anyone?
  • You are right. 809 franklkin belongs to me. I rented it out to the mazon family when they had the discount store there. The lease is coming due in june and i am taking the store back. The mazon project is on hold right now. Perhaps when the banks stop stealing taxpayers money and starts lending the project will resume.

We have organic valley milk on sale this week!!!!
    English cucumbers 1.99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Bananas .69 lb
    Thomas English Muffins 1.99 12pk
    This weekend only. Booklynian Special
    FISHERS. THE PEOPLES FRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • THERE IS ALSO A 10% OFF COUPON FOR FISHERS ON GOOGLE!
  • If any one was wondering, the empty store next to 95 south is going to be the new future home for mazon discount.
  • Subject: bagels!!

Yes, good coffee and good bagels and I am in! And if you are open for brunch on the weekends. I am totally sold
  • Tony's talking about a relatively small storefront space, I don't think there will be much opportunity for a sit-down brunch thing. Seems like it'll be more of a coffee and maybe breads/pastries walk-up kinda place.

Looking forward to it, either way. Bring on the non-chain coffee spot!
  • New Mazons. Bummer... I was hoping for a Thai restaurant.
  • Between E.P. and Atlantic ave their are about 20 store fronts for rent. Most of them would be great for different kinds of restaurants and cafes. it would be nice if we can transform franklin ave into a restaurant and cafe ave i think it would be great. Therefore i ask that people on this blog go out and tell restaurant and cafe owners about our neighborhood. Together we can all make things happen. No longer will people have to venture outside the area to eat or to get a drink. Just a thought.
  • it is a a good thought Tony :)

thanks! i had posted asking that earlier!
  • I went in today to buy some soup and the store was nearly empty. Talked to Tony and he said they're closing up for 2 months and that when they open it will be "everything you'd want it to be". I hope so!!!

Very, very excited to see how it all goes. When I went in around 5 they had moved most of their food down to the Pioneer south of Eastern Parkway and should be done by tomorrow he said.

  • according to Twitter, they will be opening in 2 weeks as an "organic and natural foods market at everyday low prices." I am looking forward to it!

  • "organic and natural foods market at everyday low prices."

    lol

double lol @ everyday low prices

  • I predict Tony is well aware he is going to lose a lot of his everyday customers to the new Compare Supermarket.

...he's chosen to focus on the higher profit organic and natural market instead.

not that there is anything wrong with that.

  • I have looked inside the new build out and the Brothers Fisher are doing a great job. Installing nice displays and green LED light fixtures.Pine Tree, Nams and Fisher are are excellent additions to Franklin

  • I went into the store yesterday. Tile floors, exposed brick, new windows...aesthetically it looks really nice. Apparently there is a windpowered generator now on the roof and the whole building will be "green". They will be 24-hours and have lots of beer, organic freezer foods, and a whole fridge-table for cheese. The whole front half will be produce, and Tony met with farmers from the GAP farmers market to get local produce. Also he's getting produce from local public school gardens. 3 more weeks he said. I look forward to it.

Did you ask him what his upsale will be? It's already kind to buy from them directly.

    Location? Much more flexible hours?

    get ready to pay $$$$$

then go next door and get a $10 cup of coffee

  • C'mon. A regular cup of joe does not cost $10 at Tony's.

Not going to comment on the silly frapp/latte things, of course.

  • so, based on the above description of what it will be, do we think the neighborhood will support it?

....or will he slowly go under as a result of Compare and Pine Tree?

don't know. i can't imagine his prices being lower than pine tree or nam's. but it's gonna be a big place, so it will probably have more stuff.

this guy has always rubbed me the wrong way. all i ever heard was that the prices at his old place were ridiculous. i remember one time he posted on brooklynian that he had the last bottle of some type of cooking oil that was in short supply and was asking an absurd price for it...people posted immediately saying the shortage was over and that they could get the product for half price elsewhere. plus the pulp and bean is a ripoff.

    Compare Foods for me

  • ^^^ it was bitters, if I remember correctly.

I think that Compare will have to try really, really hard to not earn a lot of business in the neighborhood.
