I entertained snobby Manhattanites tonight

Really, how many lame anti-Brooklyn jokes am I supposed to laugh at before pulling a machete out of my purse and putting us all out of our misery?? 12? 18?

  • Okay, one point they made that kind of hit home was how everything was closed at 10:15PM - Alma, The Good Fork, Robin Des Bois, etc. We finally went to Bar Tabac (upon vehement protests of going home by the Manhattanites) where there were these amazing guitar players (I can only guess of the Spanish/Flemenco "variety" with their nimble fingers) that kept one of the women mesmerized enough to want to stay put for a late dinner.

(BTW, if no one replies to this post, I'm officially giving up on the "Boerum Hill/Carroll Gardens Brooklynian neighborhood - come on, Voodoo!)
  • its much better they think brooklyn is inferior to manhattan. it will keep them on that side of the river so we can continue to enjoy our neighborhood.

any good brooklyn jokes or the normal "crooklyn" crap?
  • I really do pity them - that have to derive a feeling of superiority just based upon a zip code. Most of them are not even born & bred New Yorkers. Just trying to live a lifestyle they probably read about while they whiling away the hours on pappy's farm. Oh I'm sorry - did I offend anyone that flew in from some god forsaken cow town? Gee, I guess I shouldn't ask where did they live BEFORE deciding to overpay for a rat trap rental? I guess because they live in NYC now they are frequent A-listers at the newest club in NY.

PUH-leeze. Brooklyn is more than just a place to live - it is a passion. We care for each other, we care for our communities, we strive to make life better. Tell the snobs to take a cab back home. Gee - Buttfuck nowhere - I don't know how much it costs to go there - but I will chip in to export the snobs there.
  • And if you couldn't tell, yes, I am born and bred Brooklyn. Could live ANYWHERE I want since I am a teleworker but choose to stay on the best place on earth.
  • I'm not generally a fan of Bar Tabac, but I do love flamenco guitar. I didn't realize they had live music

Don't give up! Keep our board alive!

That's kind of weird though. I *used* to have to drag people to Brooklyn from the city some years ago when Smith Street was only Red Rose, Patois and bodegas. Now I have to beat them off with a stick.

Here we go again with the "beating off" and "stick" in the same sentence

Someone on this board (I'm sorry I cannot remember who to give credit to) told me a great Brooklyn joke

What does a woman who wears pantyhose and Brooklyn have in common?

    Flatbush
  • Great joke! :)
  • that's pretty funny, Stacey :-)

I laugh when I am on Flatbush, because my GPS says "Flat Bosh"
  • Subject: See website for lineup

See "Special Events" on the website for the schedule of live music. You can also call the number listed to find out who's playin:

They weren't even jokes. They were just dissing Brooklyn and laughing (and then expecting me to laugh with them). And you're right, they were not native New Yorkers. I should have called them on their cowtown hometowns.

I've lived in 6 cities in 3 different countries and feel like I finally found my home in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. :D
